Florence + The Machine<\/a> have shared their new single, \u201cOne of the Greats.\u201d Listen to it below.<\/p>\n

The simmering track is from the band\u2019s upcoming sixth studio album, Everybody Scream<\/a>, which is scheduled for release on October 31st. Building\u00a0on IDLES<\/a> guitarist Mark Bowen\u2019s riff and Welch\u2019s evocative vocals, it features\u00a0the brilliantly scathing lyrics, \u201cIt must be nice to be a man and make boring music just because you can.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really know how to explain myself with this one, it was sort of a long poem about the cost of greatness,\u201d singer Florence Welch revealed in a press statement. \u201cMe and Bowen from IDLES wrote it in one take. He played the guitar and I just sang it straight from the page. We meant to re-record it but the first take just had this amazing energy. Then Aaron Dessner helped us take it to a truly transcendent place. I wanted it to feel like you were disintegrating into nothing at the end. Which is sometimes what the creative process feels to me. Death and resurrection over and over.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the Greats\u201d follows the album\u2019s title track<\/a>, which was released last month. Everybody Scream will be the group\u2019s first full-length effort since 2022\u2019s Dance Fever<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While touring in support of the album, Welch had to undergo emergency life-saving surgery<\/a>, forcing the band to cancel several shows.
