Judas Priest<\/a>\u00a0singer Rob Halford<\/a> opened up about myriad topics during his recent interview on the \u201cQueer the Music\u201d podcast<\/a>, including his marriage to his longtime partner Thomas last year.<\/p>\n

The metal icon and Thomas have been together for more than three decades, but finally made it official in 2024, as Halford told podcast host and Scissor Sisters singer Jake Shears [as transcribed by Blabbermouth<\/a>].<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got married by the cactus outside about a year or so ago,\u201d said Halford, who has lived in Phoenix since the mid 1980s.<\/p>\n

Halford said he had long desired to officially tie the knot with Thomas, but eventually stopped asking. Then, it was Thomas who suggested they get married last year, and they didn\u2019t hesitate after that.<\/p>\n

\u201c[I would say], \u2018Let\u2019s get married.\u2019 \u2018No, I don\u2019t wanna get married.\u2019 \u2018Oh, let\u2019s just get married. We\u2019ve been together forever.\u2019 \u2018No, I don\u2019t wanna get married,’\u201d Halford said. \u201cAnd then suddenly on one of our night walks, he goes, \u2018I think we should get married.\u2019 [I went] straight home [and got] on the phone to get a pastor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Halford described it as a \u201cvery simple ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was obviously me and him and an officiant, as they call them, who are legalized to marry people. [Also present were] two of my dearest friends, Jim Silvia, who was Priests\u2019s [tour] manager forever, and his wife. There was just four of us around the pool, around the cactus, the heavy metal cactus. And it was over in an instant. But it was just a beautiful, simple ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIs marriage important? I leave that up to you. You decide whether you think a piece of paper is valuable. In some cases, it is \u2014 it\u2019s extremely valuable. But for us to tie the knot, it\u2019s just nice. It\u2019s just a nice thing. It seems like you\u2019ve completed something in your relationship, more than anything else. The commitment goes to another level when you get married. It\u2019s a great thing to do. And if it doesn\u2019t work, that\u2019s life. But I think after being together for 35 years, it\u2019s working.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the extensive conversation with Shears, Halford lamented that \u201cAmerica is still incredibly homophobic.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n
