The Canadian Premier League<\/a>\u2018s newest franchise is bringing a familiar name to soccer fans in Qu\u00e9bec into the 21st century.<\/p>\n The league announced on Wednesday, September 24, the addition of its ninth team, which will play at the Stade Bor\u00e9ale in Laval, Qu\u00e9bec, starting in April 2026. Later that day came the unveiling of team\u2019s name \u2014 FC Supra du Qu\u00e9bec \u2014 and its logo during an event at the Complex Multi-Sports de Laval.<\/p>\n If the name sounds familiar, that\u2019s because it\u2019s derived from the Montr\u00e9al Supra, a franchise in the Canadian Soccer League from 1988 to 1992. The new team\u2019s logo \u2014 a half-red, half-blue diamond with a white S overtop \u2014 is a reimagining of the original Supra crest, including its red, white and blue colour scheme.<\/p>\n The S in the crest is meant to portray \u201cmovement and progress,\u201d while the diamond shape represents the blocks of communities within Qu\u00e9bec. \u201cThe red displays the club\u2019s Canadian pride, while the blue is an ode to the team\u2019s Francophone influence and the white to unity and a bright future ahead,\u201d the league says on its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe want to be known as the\u00a0club from here, for here. The team\u2019s name was a natural choice. We are honouring Quebec\u2019s rich soccer tradition while building on community connections and elevating the game to the highest level.<\/p>\n \u201cOur team branding is deeply rooted in the unique culture of Quebec soccer. We are proud to have world-class expertise within the team\u2019s ownership group, including a designer who has developed brand identities for leading soccer clubs globally, and who helped create our own branding.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014 Rocco Placentino, President and Co-Founder, FC Supra<\/p>\n The materials accompanying the announcement showed the crest in various applications, including one with a horizontal wordmark next to it.<\/p>\n The original Supra played five seasons in the Canadian Soccer League, with their best result being a loss in the league semifinals in 1992. Notable alumni include Mauro Biello, Alex Bunbury and Christian Gourcuff.<\/p>\n \u201cMoving into Quebec represents more than adding a new CPL market; it\u2019s a strategic cornerstone of our coast-to-coast vision for Canadian professional soccer.
