Dana White is already proving to be a polarizing figure in the boxing world.<\/p>\n
White\u2019s Zuffa Boxing promotion is not set to launch until 2026 but the UFC<\/a> president has already become a prominent talking point in the sport.<\/p>\n Alongside Turki Alalshikh, White co-promoted Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford<\/a> earlier this month, as the two battled it out at Las Vegas\u2019 Allegiant Stadium with undisputed super middleweight status on the line.<\/p>\n Crawford\u2019s victory over the legendary Alvarez<\/a> marked White\u2019s return to boxing promotion eight years on from Conor McGregor\u2019s high-profile crossover fight with Floyd Mayweather. This time around, the UFC chief is not going anywhere, and he has some bold plans lined up that have one legend worried.<\/p>\n Roy Jones Jr. expresses concern over Dana White\u2019s boxing goal<\/p>\n White has proposed wholescale changes to the boxing system<\/a>, including controversial revisions to the Ali Act that would allow Zuffa Boxing to create its own titles and rankings separate from the sport\u2019s traditional governing bodies.<\/p>\n Reacting to that approach during an interview with MMA Knockout<\/a>, boxing icon Roy Jones Jr.<\/a> gave a less than enthusiastic assessment of what White\u2019s arrival in the sport will mean.<\/p>\n \u201cSo it\u2019s very bad for the sport of boxing,\u201d Jones Jr. said. \u201cBecause they\u2019re trying to turn boxing kind of into MMA, and that\u2019s not good.<\/p>\n \u201cBoxing has too much history. Boxing came with those belts before they (UFC and MMA) got here.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you take that away from boxing, you\u2019re killing a lot of their history. And a lot of people, like myself, are not going to be happy with that,\u201d Jones Jr. continued. \u201cSo I don\u2019t like it, no.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think (White will) be a positive. If he found out a way to work with the sanctioning bodies and do everything else, he\u2019d be positive because he\u2019s done it with the UFC.\u201d<\/p>\n Daniel Cormier also has his doubts about Dana White\u2019s boxing plan<\/p>\n When it comes to skepticism over how White plans to \u2018save\u2019 boxing, Jones Jr. is not alone.<\/p>\n Even a top UFC personality has his doubts, with Daniel Cormier questioning one aspect of White\u2019s approach<\/a> during a recent episode of his Good Guy\/Bad Guy<\/a> show on ESPN MMA\u2019s YouTube channel.<\/p>\n \u201cDana White said he has plans to do a boxing version of the Contender Series in 2026,\u201d Cormier said. \u201cHe said, \u2018The best will fight the best, undefeated guys will fight undefeated guys, so I will build stars and I will put on great fights.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cDoes that work in boxing? \u2026 That, to me, sounds like he wants to change more. Because most boxers, especially the good ones, they don\u2019t start seeing real competition until 18, 19, 20-0. Dana\u2019s now saying, \u2018I want these guys to fight each other and I want them to do it much sooner.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know, Chael (Sonnen).
