{"id":168650,"date":"2025-09-25T15:46:06","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T15:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/168650\/"},"modified":"2025-09-25T15:46:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T15:46:06","slug":"markham-dessert-shop-robbery-teen-suspect-arrested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/168650\/","title":{"rendered":"Markham dessert shop robbery: teen suspect arrested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A suspect who was caught on security camera brandishing a wrench during a robbery at a dessert shop in Markham on Monday has been arrested, York Regional Police (YRP) say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The arrest comes days after police <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/york\/2025\/09\/23\/wrench-wielding-suspect-leaves-with-can-of-soda-after-allegedly-failing-to-steal-money-from-markham-dessert-shop\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/york\/2025\/09\/23\/wrench-wielding-suspect-leaves-with-can-of-soda-after-allegedly-failing-to-steal-money-from-markham-dessert-shop\/\">released the footage in an effort to find the suspect.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In the video, the suspect, wearing a mask and carrying a backpack, enters the store on Cooper Creek Boulevard and speaks to the employee working at the counter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">As they are having a conversation, he takes his backpack off, opens it and pulls out a wrench.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He demands the employee give him money. The man can then be seen going behind the counter, only taking a can of pop before walking out of the shop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A Good Samaritan who is passing by checks if the employee is okay as the suspect rides his white mountain bike away from the shop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">YRP alleges the Good Samaritan was assaulted by the suspect but did not sustain serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yrp.ca\/en\/Modules\/News\/index.aspx?newsId=629a83f2-c9f7-4ff6-beef-813982d265ea\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.yrp.ca\/en\/Modules\/News\/index.aspx?newsId=629a83f2-c9f7-4ff6-beef-813982d265ea\">In a news release on Thursday<\/a>, police said a member of the public recognized the suspect and called them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The tip resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old boy.
