He miraculously survived, but the subsequent fireball severely burned both of his hands. He never drove an F1 car again. This Friday, that is about to change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\"><a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com?id=74968X1596630&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.formula1.com%2Fen%2Flatest%2Farticle%2Fgrosjean-to-drive-f1-car-for-first-time-since-2020-bahrain-gp-crash-in.aEzRcm9zF3qxFoahGJntG&amp;sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.roadandtrack.com%2Fnews%2Fa68056820%2Fromain-grosjean-drive-formula-1-car-first-time-since-2020-crash%2F\" data-i13n=\"elm:affiliate_link;elmt:premonetized\" rel=\"sponsored nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Formula1.com;elm:affiliate_link;elmt:premonetized;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Formula1.com<\/a> reports that Grosjean will take the wheel of a 2023-spec Haas during a test at Mugello on September 26. \u201cI\u2019m absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Romain Grosjean back into a Formula 1 car for the first time in five years, but especially proud he\u2019s returning in one of our cars\u2014it\u2019s only fitting,\u201d said Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Grosjean has not returned to the F1 grid, but he did resume his racing career in 2021 when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadandtrack.com\/news\/a37725128\/romain-grosjean-is-joining-andretti-autosport\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:he began to race in the IndyCar series;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">he began to race in the IndyCar series<\/a>. This year, he is racing in the IMSA GTP class with the Lamborghini Squadra Corse team. Still, the 39-year-old Swiss driver is eager to get back behind the wheel of an F1 car.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cTo say I\u2019m excited to get back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car would naturally be an understatement. I really can\u2019t believe it\u2019s been almost five years, but to come back and have this outing with my old team is truly something special,\u201d said Grosjean.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">What should make the drive even more special: the helmet Grosjean will wear. His final F1 race was to be at Abu Dhabi back in 2020, and his kids designed a special helmet for him to wear for that race. Unfortunately, Abu Dhabi was two weeks after his crash in Bahrain which prematurely ended his Formula 1 career.
