\n\tRick Moranis<\/a> is returning to a galaxy very, very, very, very far away.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor is officially ending his decades-long hiatus from live-action acting for \u201cSpaceballs 2<\/a>,\u201d a sequel to the 1987 sci-fi parody \u201cSpaceballs.\u201d He\u2019s reprising his role as Lord Dark Helmet alongside Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, Mel Brooks as the Yoda-esque being Yogurt, Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa, and George Wyner as Colonel Sandurz. They\u2019ll be joined by newcomers to the goofy intergalactic adventure, including Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman and Anthony Carrigan.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmazon MGM has confirmed the full cast now that production is underway. The studio also shared a behind-the-scenes photo of the stars, writers and director at a table read. \u201cSpaceballs 2\u201d is aiming to land in theaters in 2027. <\/p>\n

\n\tJosh Greenbaum, who is known for \u201cBarb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar\u201d and \u201cWill & Harper,\u201d is directing from a script by Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. The film\u2019s full title and plot description haven\u2019t been confirmed, but Amazon MGM cheekily wrote in the official press release that \u201cthe title is rumored to be the name of the movie, and plot details are being described as information about what happens in the story.\u201d A prior logline, also using Brooks-esque humor, described the film as a \u201cnon-prequel non-reboot sequel part two but with reboot elements franchise expansion film.\u201d Like the original, the sequel is expected to riff on popular sci-fi franchises like \u201cStar Wars,\u201d \u201cStar Trek\u201d and \u201cAlien.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMoranis is best known for comedies like \u201cGhostbusters,\u201d \u201cLittle Shop of Horrors\u201d and \u201cHoney, I Shrunk the Kids.\u201d He took a long break from acting after his wife, Ann Belsky, died of cancer in 1991. Moranis had plans to return to the screen in 2020 for another sequel to \u201cHoney, I Shrunk the Kids\u201d but the projection was put indefinitely on hold due to COVID. Though he\u2019s voiced characters since, Moranis hasn\u2019t appeared in film since 1997\u2019s \u201cHoney, We Shrunk Ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBrooks, 99, is the comedy legend behind classics such as \u201cThe Producers,\u201d \u201cBlazing Saddles,\u201d \u201cYoung Frankenstein\u201d and \u201cHistory of the World: Part 1.\u201d He directed and co-wrote the original \u201cSpaceballs\u201d and will serve as a producer the sequel. Imagine Entertainment\u2019s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Jeb Brody, will also produce alongside Gad, Greenbaum and Kevin Salter.
