The \u201cWeekend Update\u201d host said that the rapper was still apologetic about the heated exchange months later, pulling him aside to discuss it backstage when Eddie Murphy hosted the show\u2019s 2019 Christmas episode<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cEvery black person in Hollywood was at this show,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m walking through the hallway and he\u2019s coming out the elevator bay, and as soon as he sees me goes, \u2018I owe you an apology,\u2019\u201d Che recalled. \u201cI didn\u2019t even know if he remembered that that happened because he was saying so much s—.\u201d<\/p>\n Che came face to face with the rapper when West finally got off the SNL stage in 2018 after his long-winded post-show rant, much of which never made it to air. <\/p>\n Che tells West in the footage<\/a>, \u201cWhy you gotta call me out on the f—ing [stage] if I don\u2019t got a chance to say anything for myself?\u201d <\/p>\n Part of West\u2019s remarks, which spanned not only his pro-Trump views but also his railing against Black support for the Democratic Party, among other things, included a dig at \u201cBlack comedians\u201d who joke about Bill Cosby\u2019s sexual assault accusations at the time. Che tells West, \u201cI\u2019m the Black comedian that made a joke about Cosby.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhy would you do that to me? I work here,\u201d he tells him, also challenging West\u2019s accusation that he was \u201cbullied\u201d for wearing his Trump hat. \u201cLike, come on, man. We treat everyone that comes in like family, and you gonna sell us out? Like, that\u2019s f—ed up, man. We look up to you, we love you. What you got against us?\u201d <\/p>\n West stops short of apologizing in the clip, but tells Che \u201cI love you\u201d and lets him say his piece.<\/p>\n Che said that after West later apologized, \u201cWe talked and I never brought it up again.\u201d <\/p>\n As for the confrontation itself, Che said he was surprised to see it play out in West\u2019s documentary. \u201cI was like, how would they even get permission for that? Because taping at SNL\u2026they won\u2019t let me do it. So, I\u2019m like, \u2018how are you guys able to do that?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Che was far from the only SNL staffer who was miffed<\/a> by West\u2019s 2018 musical guest appearance on the show.
