{"id":171789,"date":"2025-09-27T00:27:05","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T00:27:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/171789\/"},"modified":"2025-09-27T00:27:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T00:27:05","slug":"users-report-debit-payment-issues-in-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/171789\/","title":{"rendered":"Users report debit payment issues in Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Some debit card users were experiencing payment issues Friday, according to third-party website <a href=\"http:\/\/downdetector.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Downdetector.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">As of 6 p.m. EDT, 1,562 users had reported outages through <a href=\"http:\/\/downdetector.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Downdetector.ca<\/a>, with 78 per cent claiming issues with purchases. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The issue, according to the outage report, appears to have begun shortly before 4 p.m. EDT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On X, Interac acknowledged that some users were experiencing debit-related issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe understand some customers are unable to pay with debit at select merchants,\u201d the statement read. \u201cInterac services are operating normally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It is unclear what is behind the sudden spike in outages. Interac said it was not an issue related to its systems. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">At the height of the issue, several stores in Canada warned customers that they would have to pay in cash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In addition to Interac, <a href=\"http:\/\/downdetector.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Downdetector.ca<\/a> showed user-filed outage reports for several bank-related services Friday, including Visa, CIBC, Tangerine, TD, RBC, Mastercard and Scotiabank. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It is unclear whether there is any connection between the issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Some debit card users were experiencing payment issues Friday, according to third-party website Downdetector.ca.
