Fredericksburg, Va.\u00a0\u2013 The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team returned to action Saturday at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Mary Washington.<\/p>\n
The Ducks had three student-athletes competing on the day, as inclement weather forced play indoors across six courts.<\/p>\n
HOW IT HAPPENED UP NEXT
\nThe duo of Stephanie Untermeyer<\/a> and Lorena Piegas<\/a> represented Stevens in doubles play. The pair jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Salisbury’s Cleopatra Solomon and Gibelle Beaujon before the Sea Gulls responded with five straight games. Untermeyer and Piegas battled back to level the score at 5-all, but Solomon and Beaujon closed out the match with the final two games to win 7-5.
\nIn singles action, Alix Dry<\/a> squared off with Mary Washington’s Natalie Kim, who entered the tournament ranked No. 9 in the flight. Dry fought throughout but ultimately fell by an 8-2 scoreline.<\/p>\n
\nThe Ducks open their home slate on October 11, welcoming Moravian University to the Bayonne Tennis Courts. First serve is set for noon.
