During a live appearance in Germany<\/a>, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed the exact moment he took control of his matches\u2014and called out Flair for refusing to evolve inside the ring. Hart said everything changed after he became WWF Champion and began working Flair in rematches. While their matches overseas were solid, he said things fell apart when they returned stateside.<\/p>\n\u201cI started wrestling Ric Flair again in rematches, and I didn\u2019t have very good matches with Ric Flair,\u201d Hart said. \u201cLike the ones I had in Germany a few weeks before were like five-star matches, but the ones I had in Calgary\u2026 like one star.\u201d<\/p>\n
That led Hart to believe something more intentional was going on.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think he\u2019s purposely not giving me good matches,\u201d he explained. \u201cHe was trying to sabotage my matches.\u201d<\/p>\n
Things boiled over when Flair tried to take control of one of their match layouts. That\u2019s when Hart snapped\u2014and made a decision that would define his legacy.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe asked me, \u2018So what are we doing?\u2019 And I said, \u2018This is what I want to do.\u2019 I took about ten minutes to outline the whole match. He looked at me and said, \u2018That sounds really good, but how about this instead?\u2019 And he started to tell me all about what he wanted to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hart cut him off right then and there.<\/p>\n
\u201cI said, \u2018No, we\u2019re not doing any of that. I\u2019m in charge. I\u2019m the champion. I tell you what to do.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Hart said Flair didn\u2019t argue, but it was clear the moment left him rattled. That conversation was the turning point for Hart, who said he never let anyone dictate a match to him again.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom that day on, I never took orders from anybody. I told everybody what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hart also took a direct shot at Flair\u2019s ring style, claiming the 16-time world champion rarely switched it up.<\/p>\n
\u201cRic wrestles everybody the exact same way. It\u2019s the same script, the same match, the same spots, the same moves.\u201d<\/p>\n
By contrast, Hart prided himself on reinventing his matches every night.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m an artist. I do something different every night\u2026 That\u2019s my Papa Shango match. That\u2019s my Bam Bam Bigelow match. That\u2019s my Yokozuna match. But none of them are the same.\u201d<\/p>\n
In Hart\u2019s mind, true greatness comes from being in control of the story from start to finish\u2014and that\u2019s exactly what he did.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was the producer, director, and editor. I put the whole match together from top to bottom.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bret Hart isn\u2019t interested in playing nice anymore. He\u2019s telling his truth\u2014and calling out anyone who didn\u2019t pull their weight. And according to him, Ric Flair is near the top of that list.<\/p>\n
