Jerry O\u2019Connell \u2013 SIGNED OPEN LETTER AGAINST ISRAEL FILM BOYCOTT<\/p>\n

Jerry O\u2019Connell seemingly is supporting Israel by rejecting a boycott of the Israeli film industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you did not see, last week, thousands of stars signed a pledge that they would not work with festivals, broadcasters, cinemas or production companies they believe are \u201cimplicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, an open letter was signed by Jerry and others<\/a> asking those who signed the first pledge to reconsider.<\/p>\n

The open letter says, in part, \u201cWho will decide which Israeli filmmakers and film institutions are \u2018complicit\u2019? A McCarthyist committee with blacklists? Or is \u2018complicity\u2019 just a pretext to boycott all Israelis and Zionists \u2014 95% of the world\u2019s Jewish population \u2014 no matter what they create or believe? History warns us. Censorship has been used to silence filmmakers before: Nazi Germany\u2019s propaganda machine, Soviet censorship, and even Hollywood\u2019s own blacklists. Every time it was dressed up as virtue. And every time it was oppression. Every time, its targets expanded.\u201d<\/p>\n
