\t\t\t\t\tDevils’ Jack Hughes<\/a> recently said it was tough playing his first year in the NHL, and Panthers’ Brad Marchand<\/a> called him out, saying it must be hard to be rich.<\/p>\n

That assumption, however, ignores the human challenges that come with life in the spotlight, and Jack Hughes is a prime example of it.<\/p>\n

While the star forward has finally managed to put everything together, things were a bit different during his first season with the struggling New Jersey Devils.<\/p>\n

Jack Hughes and the team both struggled, and making nearly $1 million in salary couldn’t quite ignore those challenges. In fact, the Orlando, Florida native admitted that he \u00abhated\u00bb that first professional campaign in the NHL.<\/p>\n

“I hated it.”<\/p>\n

Brad Marchand publicly makes fun of Jack Hughes for being ungrateful<\/p>\n

Brad Marchand called out Hughes for these comments, saying he’s ungrateful for playing in the NHL and sarcastically stating it must be hard making $1 million dollars as a teenager.<\/p>\n

As you might expect from the fact that they had secured the first overall pick, the New Jersey Devils were a pretty bad team, which is something Brad Marchand might be failing to realize.<\/p>\n

The club limped out of the gate, let both the head coach and the general manager go, and traded away star player Taylor Hall<\/a>, only making things even harder on the ice for Hughes.<\/p>\n

Needless to say, that wasn’t an environment that allowed Hughes to flourish to the player that he finally is today.<\/p>\n

Making around $925,000, or $1 million as Marchand likes to call it, might seem like a perk, but money can’t alleviate pressure at times. The good news is those days are behind Hughes, and he can look ahead to chasing a Stanley Cup.<\/p>\n
