Chatham\u2019s Bridget Carleton had three points, three rebounds and two steals Sunday in the Minnesota Lynx\u2019s season-ending 86-81 loss to the Mercury in Phoenix.<\/p>\n

The top-seeded Lynx lost 3-1 in the best-of-five semifinal despite owning a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter in Game 4.<\/p>\n

They were missing MVP runner-up Napheesa Collier, who suffered an ankle injury late in Friday\u2019s Game 3 loss in Phoenix.<\/p>\n

Also out was Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve, suspended for her behaviour and angry comments about the officiating in Game 3.<\/p>\n

Carleton had six points and four rebounds in Friday\u2019s 84-76 loss.<\/p>\n

Taylor leads Kings to two victories<\/p>\n

Griffyn Taylor made 35 saves and Colton Graham scored twice Saturday in the Dresden Kings\u2019 4-2 road win over the Mooretown Flags in the Provincial Junior Hockey League\u2019s Stobbs Division.<\/p>\n

Maclean Norris and Cameron Graham also scored for the Kings (3-2-1-0).<\/p>\n

On Friday, Derek Nevills scored twice and Taylor made 22 saves in the Kings\u2019 5-3 win over the Wheatley Omstead Sharks before 172 fans at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre.<\/p>\n

Norris, Cameron Graham and Nolan Jack also scored as the Kings rallied from a 3-1 deficit.<\/p>\n

Jesse Mercier, Ryan Basile and Vito Alfano scored for the Sharks (2-3-0-0). Adam Flanagan made 35 saves.<\/p>\n

The Kings play Tuesday in Essex and host the Amherstburg Admirals Friday at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Blades top 73\u2019s for weekend split<\/p>\n

Jake Vancoillie made 35 saves Sunday in the Blenheim Blades\u2019 3-1 win over the Essex 73\u2019s in the PJHL\u2019s Stobbs Division.<\/p>\n

Nelson DeKoning and Stefan Jacobs scored in the first period for the Blades (3-2-0-0) before 301 at Blenheim Memorial Arena. Landon Copeland added an empty-netter after the 73\u2019s (3-2-0-0) spoiled Vancoillie\u2019s shutout bid with 2:51 left in the third period.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Michael MacKellar scored in the Blades\u2019 6-1 road loss to the Amherstburg Admirals.<\/p>\n

Vancoillie stopped 15 of 16 after replacing Russell Vaughan, who gave up five goals on 29 shots.<\/p>\n

The Blades\u2019 next home game is Sunday against the Dresden Kings at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

Wild\u2019s Jeranian makes 52 saves<\/p>\n

Nicholas Jeranian made 52 saves in the Walpole Island Wild\u2019s 5-0 road loss to the Lakeshore Canadiens Friday in the PJHL\u2019s Stobbs Division.<\/p>\n

Hunter Welk had a 12-save shutout for the first-place Canadiens (4-0-0-0).<\/p>\n

The Wild (0-7-0-0) visit the Wheatley Sharks Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and host the Blenheim Blades Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Walpole Island Sports Complex.<\/p>\n

Bluebirds lose season opener<\/p>\n

Ryan Polidori made 42 saves in the Tilbury Bluebirds\u2019 5-2 loss to the Alvinston Killer Bees in Saturday\u2019s Northern Premier Hockey League season opener at Tilbury Memorial Arena.<\/p>\n

Calyn Kir and Aidan Ryan scored for the Bluebirds.<\/p>\n

Chatham Maroons head coach and GM Brennan Feasey scored for the Killer Bees. Winning goalie Joseph Raaymakers of Chatham made 42 saves.<\/p>\n

The Bluebirds host the Strathroy Jets Saturday at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Royals triumph in pre-season debut<\/p>\n

Nolan VandenBoorn and Zander Wright each scored twice Saturday as the Ridgetown Royals beat the Summit City Distillers 7-3 in their American Premier Hockey League pre-season opener.<\/p>\n

Spencer Clarke, Dakota Bohn and Malcolm Campbell also scored at East Kent Memorial Arena in the first game in Royals history.<\/p>\n

They visit the Distillers for another pre-season game Saturday, Oct. 11 in Fort Wayne, Ind.<\/p>\n

The teams face off again in the regular-season opener Saturday, Oct. 18, in Ridgetown.<\/p>\n
