Patrick Starlinger, M.D., Ph.D., a surgeon at Mayo Clinic, said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/ebiom\/article\/PIIS2352-3964(25)00372-X\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">study<\/a> is the first to show a genetic predisposition influences how the liver tolerates chemotherapy.<\/p>\n<p>The research examined 551 patients who underwent chemotherapy followed by surgery, identifying a specific PNPLA3 gene variant linked to liver injury.
