Stopping by the studio ahead of the Los Angeles premiere of A24\u2019s \u201cThe Smashing Machine<\/a>\u201d on Monday night, the Oscar-nominated actor was handed a fresh headline: an AI-generated actress named Tilly Norwood<\/a> had been unveiled over the weekend and was already drawing interest from talent agents.<\/p>\n

\n\tVariety opened the report<\/a> for Blunt during the interview, letting her read parts of the story aloud. The reaction from the star was immediate.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDoes it disappoint me? I don\u2019t know how to quite answer it, other than to say how terrifying this is,\u201d Blunt began. When shown an image of Norwood, she exclaimed, \u201cNo, are you serious? That\u2019s an AI? Good Lord, we\u2019re screwed. That is really, really scary, Come on, agencies, don\u2019t do that. Please stop. Please stop taking away our human connection.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTilly Norwood is the first creation from Xicoia, a newly launched AI talent studio spun off from Eline Van der Velden\u2019s production company Particle6. Van der Velden, who revealed the project during the Zurich Summit at the Zurich Film Festival, told attendees that studios are quietly developing similar experiments and that further announcements are expected in the coming months.<\/p>\n

\n\tBlunt, visibly unsettled, noted that Norwood was designed to resemble a composite of familiar performers. Variety tells Blunt, \u201cThey want her to be the next Scarlett Johannson.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe comments come as Hollywood continues to wrestle with the use of artificial intelligence in film and television.
