{"id":179106,"date":"2025-09-30T02:49:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T02:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/179106\/"},"modified":"2025-09-30T02:49:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T02:49:10","slug":"youth-mental-health-legislation-panel-on-oct-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/179106\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Mental Health Legislation Panel On Oct 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the lead-up to World Mental Health Day, three youth-led advocacy groups \u2013 Bermuda Is Love, the Youth Advisory Board [YAB] of the Youth Mental Health Plan, and the National Youth Policy [NYP] \u2013 are joining forces to host a public panel discussion on Youth Mental Health Legislation.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson said, \u201cThe event will be held on Monday, October 6, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI]. Its goal is to educate the public on how current legislation impacts young people\u2019s access to mental health care, while sparking dialogue around the urgent need for reform.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"slb_group[1517753] slb slb_internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Youth-Mental-Health-Legislation-Panel-Discussion-Bermuda-Oct-2025.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1517754\" alt=\"Youth Mental Health Legislation Panel Discussion Bermuda Oct 2025\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Youth-Mental-Health-Legislation-Panel-Discussion-Bermuda-Oct-2025.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"1000\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe panel will be moderated by Dr Shawnee Basden, clinical psychologist, and will feature opening and closing remarks from youth representatives of the NYP and YAB.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPanelists include:<\/p>\n<p>Justice Juan Wolffe \u2013 Supreme Court Justice<br \/>\nDr Sandy De Silva \u2013 Executive Director, Family Centre<br \/>\nChanika Darrell \u2013 Lived Experience Representative<br \/>\nDr Peter Yates \u2013 Child Psychiatrist at MWI<br \/>\nDr Zina Zuill \u2013 Department of Child and Family Services<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis timely discussion takes place ahead of a full month of mental health awareness activities, including.<\/p>\n<p>World Mental Health Day \u2013 October 10<br \/>\nYouth Mental Health Summit \u2013 October 16\u201317<br \/>\nBermuda Mental Health Foundation Conference \u2013 October 24\u201325<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a joint statement, the youth groups emphasized the importance of amplifying young voices in shaping policy:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow is the time to listen to young people and ensure our legislation reflects their lived reality. This panel is just the beginning of a broader call for reform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Crichlow, founder of Bermuda Is Love, states: \u201cWhen we create laws that protect young people\u2019s mental health, we invest in a healthier, more compassionate Bermuda for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson said, \u201cAll are welcome.
