EDMONTON \u2013 For the third time in three weeks, the Calgary Dinos men’s golf team has finished atop the team standings as they breezed to yet another win, this time at the UofA Invitational at Millwoods Golf Course on Monday in Edmonton.<\/p>\n
Sam McKeown<\/a> was dominant from start to finish and coasted to the individual title. The second-year Dino was tied for the lead after Day 1 with a 69 (-3) before finishing an adventurous weekend by firing a weekend-best 67 (-5) on Monday to finish eight under overall – six shots clear of the next golfer.<\/p>\n But it was far from just a one-man show for the Dinos in bringing home the team title. Trey Smith<\/a> finished fifth on the weekend with a 144 (+0), just ahead of rookie teammate Saahil Kaura<\/a>, who turned in his best performance of the year so far with a 69 (-3) on the final day to finish two over.\u00a0<\/p>\n Last weekend’s champ Adam Reed<\/a> finished tied with teammate Sam Bratvold<\/a> at +5 for the weekend as the Dinos\u00a0men turned in a team score of 579 (+3) to dominate and finish eight shots ahead of Alberta (587 \/ +11) for the win.<\/p>\n On the women’s side, rookie Brooke Tombs<\/a> brought home a medal for the third time in as many weeks to start her university career. Tombs finished with a score of 158 (+14) – one stroke shy of second place in yet another strong showing to start the year.<\/p>\n Georgia Mackenzie<\/a> had the best performance by a Dino on Day 2, shooting an 80 (+8) and finishing with a score of 163 to place tied for fifth overall. Norah Andronyk<\/a> was consistent with a score of 84 on both days to place eighth and one stroke ahead of rookie teammate Peyton Schmidt<\/a>. Aubrie Shapkin<\/a> was solid on Monday and finished just outside the top-10 at 173 (+29) for the tournament.<\/p>\n The Dinos women finished as runners up, turning in a team score of 487 (+55) – behind only Alberta (472) and well ahead of Lethbridge (526) for third.<\/p>\n Calgary now turns its attention to the Canada West Championships. This year’s conference meet is scheduled for Oct. 20-21 at the Chilliwack Golf Club, just outside of Abbotsford, B.C.<\/p>\n -UC-
