You don\u2019t hold government funding hostage for it,\u201d said GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmg5s44kv00053b5y2fhnr1em@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cChuck Schumer is afraid of his own shadow, and he doesn\u2019t want to be perceived as working with President Trump,\u201d said Schmitt. \u201cThat\u2019s a shame, because I think the American people are going to suffer because of it.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmg5s44kv00063b5yj773y3hx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Asked if there\u2019s any room for negotiations on Obamacare subsidies by the October 1 shutdown deadline, Republican Sen.
