Jeff Gordon has made strong comments about Corey LaJoie.<\/p>\n
The NASCAR Cup Playoffs are always a challenging time, and at Kansas Speedway<\/a>, Hendrick Motorsports<\/a> demonstrated how difficult the path might be. Even as Jeff Gordon has recommended, he has eulogized the work of his drivers in being resilient despite the team struggling with inconsistencies.<\/p>\n As all of them, William Byron<\/a>, Kyle Larson<\/a>, and Chase Elliott<\/a> are still in the hunt, the postseason life is becoming heated. In the case of Gordon, the strength of Hendrick is never to give up, even when the cars are not perfect on a certain day.<\/p>\n Jeff Gordon on Hendrick\u2019s Fight for Consistency<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, our guys are just grinding it out week in and week out,\u201d Jeff Gordon said<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s so much pressure on them in the playoffs. I think obviously the Fords have some real strengths, especially the Penskes at certain tracks, and the Toyotas have, we saw that today, they were very, very strong on the long runs.\u201d<\/p>\n For Jeff Gordon, Hendrick Motorsports\u2019<\/a> competitive edge comes not only from talent but also from teamwork.<\/p>\n \u201cI love just the fight that our guys have and the way they work together to try to learn from one another and just keep pushing the envelope and putting themselves in position. I think we realize we\u2019re on our heels a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cDays like today make it even sweeter because it\u2019s a team victory. It\u2019s just never give up, and you put yourself in a position all day long. Then you\u2019ve got to have some things go your way.\u201d<\/p>\n Kansas Speedway Highlights Hendrick\u2019s Mixed Day<\/p>\n While Hendrick celebrated a strong finish at Kansas Speedway, Jeff Gordon admitted that not everything went smoothly.<\/p>\n \u201cThey were pretty far off,\u201d he said of one car. \u201cThey come out of here with a top 10 because they didn\u2019t give up either. That one\u2019s got our heads scratching, and we\u2019ll go back and diagnose kind of what they went through and why they were in that position. Just glad they pulled a good finish together there to get the points they needed.\u201d<\/p>\n Jeff Gordon emphasized how delicate the balance can be in the NASCAR Cup Series.<\/p>\n \u201cI just think in general this carries you\u2019re talking thousandths of an inch that make the difference sometimes between qualifying in the top 5 and qualifying 15th to 20th. It just doesn\u2019t take much to miss it. I think that\u2019s what we\u2019re dealing with is just the inconsistencies there because you\u2019re just playing with hairs, and when you miss it, it can really make you look like you\u2019re having a bad day.\u201d<\/p>\n The No. 24 team, led by William Byron, illustrated this challenge. \u201cThe 24 is a good example of that. They tried a couple of things, and all of a sudden, they look like the car just came to life all of a sudden out of nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, and William Byron Lead the Charge<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like the (24) has kind of been in championship form several times this season, winning the regular season points,\u201d Jeff Gordon said of William Byron. \u201cToday was uncharacteristic of them. But to see them fight back, that keeps the momentum on their side as well.\u201d<\/p>\n At the same time, Chase Elliott has quietly built momentum by capitalizing on small breaks and maintaining consistency, while Kyle Larson<\/a> remains one of Hendrick\u2019s biggest weapons thanks to his raw speed and playoff experience.
