No longer Calgary Flames<\/a> newcomers, Joel Farabee<\/a> and Morgan Frost<\/a> are starting to call the city home\u2013and hope that feeling translates on the ice.<\/p>\n

The two were acquired in a mid-game trade on Jan. 30 from the Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> for Andrei Kuzmenko<\/a>, Jakob Pelletier<\/a>, a 2025 second-round and 2028 seventh-round draft pick.<\/p>\n

Both admitted to growing pains early, and their stats reflected that. <\/p>\n

Frost, the more offensive of the two, had just 12 points in 32 games as a Flame while Farabee had 11 points in 31 games.<\/p>\n

Moving countries and systems, they called it a \u201cwhirlwind\u201d and felt like their half-season in Calgary was essentially a long road trip given they lived in a hotel early on after the deal.<\/p>\n

Frost and Farabee feel far more settled now that they\u2019ve had some time to figure out the basics of life beyond the rink.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving your own place is nice,\u201d Farabee said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, it was just getting to know all the guys, getting to learn the prospects\u2026when I was in Philly, I took a lot of pride in getting to know the young guys and guys coming up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frost admitted that it was a bit weird coming to Calgary instead of Philadelphia for training camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut once I got here, I felt good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s fun to be back.\u201d<\/p>\n

They feel that now that the trade rumors are done, they can elevate their game for a Flames team intent on proving that last season\u2019s 96-point performance was a sign of playoff hockey to come. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not really stressing about things non-hockey related,\u201d Farabee said.<\/p>\n

\u201cComing to the rink, I\u2019m just focused on hockey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Head coach Ryan Huska<\/a> has constantly preached that each player needs to get incrementally better for the Saddledome to see its first NHL playoff action since 2022. <\/p>\n

Calgary finished 29th in the league in goals-per-game, putting that much more onus on forwards like Frost and Farabee.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsistency is that five per cent for me,\u201d Frost said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaking sure I\u2019m trying to make a mark on the game instead of just trying to play the game and not make mistakes. I think managing my risks too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Huska knows he has a skilled playmaker in Frost who can contribute secondary scoring. He just wants to see the 26-year-old end plays differently. Frost is currently skating on a line with Jonathan Huberdeau<\/a> and Matthew Coronato.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes, Morgan wants to make it look just a little bit prettier than it has to,\u201d he said earlier in training camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he over-passes or he\u2019ll over-handle [the puck] at times. He\u2019s got a really good mind for the game, so I\u2019d just like to see him end at the net more and think a little more selfishly and aggressively when it comes to going to the net.\u201d<\/p>\n

Farabee, 25, has a different role. <\/p>\n

Right now, he\u2019s on the left side of a trio with Nazem Kadri<\/a> and Yegor Sharangovich<\/a>. He knows he\u2019ll see some time on both the powerplay and penalty kill units and be counted on for a more gritty game. <\/p>\n

\u201cJust continue to help the PK this year,\u201d Farabee said.<\/p>\n

\u201c[I\u2019ll] probably end up somewhere in the middle-six, so just trying to produce a little more than I did last year. I think I can help the offence a lot more than when I got traded here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Huska sees a versatile winger he can lean on in more than just offensive situations.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s capable of doing a lot of things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019re going to see him in different situations this year. He\u2019s going to kill penalties one night. The next night, he\u2019ll be on the powerplay. He\u2019s going to be a bit of a jack-of-all-trades for us. I do anticipate he\u2019ll be bumped around the lineup\u2026he\u2019s fluid. He\u2019s able to be moved around.\u201d<\/p>\n

With most of his focus on the ice, Frost says there\u2019s still some work to do to on his new place in Calgary. Small things\u2013like a Dark Knight poster\u2013that can be the difference between a house and a home. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot of posters and framed pictures,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got Kobe Bryant\u2026[laughs] I have too many.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bigger things too. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t even have a car yet,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
