Seth Meyers was wasted when he learned that Jimmy Kimmel was booted off the air, he revealed Tuesday. <\/p>\n

\u201cI went day drinking\u201d with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers for his \u201cSeth Goes Day Drinking<\/a>\u201d interview series, he explained on a new episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast<\/a>. At the end of shooting the episode, \u201cas I literally walked out the door\u2026 I got a text from Kimmel being like, \u2018I\u2019m suspended and the future looks dark.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Meyers quipped that he thought at the time, \u201cWell, this is bad timing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel was suspended by ABC following his jokes about MAGA\u2019s reaction<\/a> to the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Trump\u2019s FCC Chairman threatened the network, which pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! from its lineup for an \u201cindefinite\u201d suspension. <\/p>\n

Based on the text Meyers received from Kimmel about the future looking \u201cdark,\u201d the host wasn\u2019t certain his show would ever return. Kimmel was ultimately only suspended for six days, after which he broke his own YouTube record for views with his first monologue back<\/a>. He clarified then that it was \u201cnever my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,\u201d but continued going after Trump and MAGA.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Meyers was light years away from the grim ordeal when he was filming his day drinking episode with the hosts of Las Culturistas, he said. It was \u201cnot the drunkest I\u2019ve ever been,\u201d he shared Tuesday, but \u201cdon\u2019t get me wrong, I was very drunk, but feeling pretty good\u201d just before he got Kimmel\u2019s text. <\/p>\n

Meyers, Yang, and Rogers laughed through several drunken games, played pop diva trivia, and Meyers ended up in a glittery tank top for maximum silliness just before he got the text, the episode shows.<\/p>\n

The night after Kimmel\u2019s suspension, Meyers spoke out in his defense<\/a>, saying on Late Night, \u201cIt is possible to stand up to this kind of bullying and censorship.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a privilege and an honor to call Jimmy Kimmel my friend in the same way that it\u2019s a privilege and honor to do this show every night,\u201d he said on his NBC show. \u201cI wake up every day, I count my blessings that I live in a country that at least purports to value freedom of speech, and we\u2019re gonna keep doing our show the way we\u2019ve always done it: with enthusiasm and integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n
