Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> fired back at U.S. President Donald Trump<\/a> after he declared Kimmel is the \u201cnext to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes,\u201d following the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Trump took to Truth Social to criticize Kimmel, claiming he has \u201cabsolutely NO TALENT\u201d and warned that his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, \u00a0is next on the chopping block.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe word is, and it\u2019s a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes, and shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social, referring to other late-night host, Jimmy Fallon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. It\u2019s really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel responded by sharing a screenshot of Trump\u2019s post on Instagram with the caption: \u201cI\u2019m hearing you\u2019re next. Or maybe it\u2019s just another wonderful secret\u201d \u2014 a reference to a Wall Street Journal report<\/a>, published July 17, that claimed Trump had written the phrase to Jeffrey Epstein<\/a> in a letter for his 50th birthday in 2003.<\/p>\n

The alleged letter bearing Trump\u2019s name included text framed by the outline of a hand-drawn naked woman and ended with, \u201cHappy Birthday \u2014 and may every day be another wonderful secret,\u201d according to the newspaper. The outlet described the contents of the letter but did not publish a photo showing it entirely.<\/p>\n

Trump has denied writing the letter, calling it \u201cfalse, malicious, and defamatory.\u201d He slammed the story in a lengthy social media post last week, saying he spoke to both the paper\u2019s owner, Rupert Murdoch, and its top editor, Emma Tucker, and told them the letter was \u201cfake.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don\u2019t draw pictures,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Trump has since sued the publication over the story.<\/p>\n

Comedian Chelsea Handler addressed Trump in Kimmel\u2019s Instagram comment section, adding that it\u2019s \u201camazing a president doesn\u2019t have more important things to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve played a major role in every single person to contemplate leaving this country,\u201d Handler wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing a president doesn\u2019t have more important things to do like stop wars, make sure the country is safe from foreign enemies, or simply ensure that every family in this country can put food on their table.\u201d<\/p>\n

Handler went on to suggest that children\u2019s literature character Pippi Longstocking \u201cwould be better suited to the office.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s episode of\u00a0The Tonight Show, Fallon also brought up the cancellation of Colbert\u2019s show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am your host,\u201d Fallon said. \u201cWell, at least for tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like it. I don\u2019t like what\u2019s going on one bit. These are crazy times,\u201d he told his audience<\/a>. \u201cStephen has done years of incredibly smart and hilarious television. He\u2019s won 10 Emmys. Trump heard and was like, \u2018Big deal. Last week, I just won a FIFA World Cup trophy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fallon was referring to the recent FIFA World Cup Final trophy presentation, when Trump stuck around on stage<\/a> in the centre of the moment as the players received their trophy.<\/p>\n

Colbert also shared some choice words for Trump<\/a> during Monday\u2019s\u00a0opening monologue on\u00a0The Late Show.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cOver the weekend it sunk in that they\u2019re killing off our show but they made one mistake: they left me alive,\u201d Colbert said, looking directly into the camera.<\/p>\n

Colbert said he doesn\u2019t \u201ccare for\u201d Trump, adding that he doesn\u2019t think he has \u201cthe skill set to be president\u201d and isn\u2019t \u201ca good fit.\u201d<\/p>\n

The late-night host went on to read Trump\u2019s post celebrating\u00a0the decision to cancel the show<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0Truth Social last Friday<\/a>, in which he wrote, \u201cI absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert said into the \u201cEloquence Cam\u201d: \u201cHow dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism? Go f\u2014 yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
