He said he had the same kicking coach as Lewis Ward,&#8221; Mace added\u00a0about the University of Ottawa product. &#8220;There are a lot of cool things that go into that, ultimately, we&#8217;re going to\u00a0make the decision that&#8217;s best for the roster.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ever since I started kicking,\u00a0I was\u00a016, my goal was to get to the CFL,&#8221; Fair told\u00a0voice of the Riders, Dave Thomas. &#8220;Especially over the past two years, once I&#8217;ve been in the room but not getting to play, I&#8217;ve definitely been getting eager for it, so\u00a0it would be a great moment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lauther has been struggling in 2025 with\u00a0a 68.9 field goal percentage. In Saskatchewan&#8217;s\u00a0Week 17\u00a0game against the Edmonton Elks, the 34-year-old made two-of-four field goals, missing from 50 and 55 yards, in a 27-25 loss.\u00a0Among <a href=\"https:\/\/static.cfl.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025-CFL-League-Statistics-Wk17.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CFL kickers<\/a>, he\u00a0ranks\u00a0last in field goal percentage.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to signing\u00a0with the Riders, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscage.com\/centerpiece\/new-riders-kicker-campbell-fair-explains-how-he-kept-his-cfl-football-dream-alive-11109113\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fair<\/a> spent\u00a0time with the Elks, who selected\u00a0him in the sixth round, 51st overall during\u00a0the 2023 CFL Draft. He also had a stint\u00a0with the\u00a0Calgary Stampeders in that\u00a0same season. Initially, the six-foot, 185-pound athlete\u00a0played a different sport and then\u00a0switched\u00a0to football.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I started, I was really bad. I was a soccer player and I couldn&#8217;t get the soccer form to work,&#8221; Fair recalled. I was lucky to have a great coach when I first started.\u00a0He instilled confidence in me\u00a0and he was huge in getting me to believe that I could get to this point.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to Fair, it is humbling to hear\u00a0support he has from Lauther who is a fan of his abilities as a kicker.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s huge because that&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve been wanting to do,&#8221; Fair said. &#8220;It&#8217;s good to know that a kicker who&#8217;s done it has a belief in me that I can do the same thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Teagan Witko, Justin Dunk, and Wes Cates\u00a0bring you the pre-game show at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
