<\/p>\n LUBBOCK, Texas (Oct. 1, 2025) \u2014 Lubbock Christian University and St. Mary’s University battled to a scoreless draw on Wednesday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.\u00a0<\/p>\n Both teams registered 14 shots, but goalkeepers from each side held firm, with the Chaparrals’ goalie making six saves to preserve the clean sheet. Despite numerous opportunities, neither team was able to break through, resulting in a defensive stalemate.<\/p>\n The Chaps hold a 1-5-2 overall record and are 0-0-1 in conference play. St. Mary’s University stands at 1-1-6 overall with a 0-0-1 mark in conference action.<\/p>\n The first half began with the Chaparrals applying early pressure as Manu Nunez<\/a> tested St. Mary’s goalkeeper Johnny Thurbin with a shot in the opening minutes on a free kick just inches outside the box. The home team continued to press with multiple attempts, including efforts from Augusto Militao<\/a> and another from Nunez, but found Thurbin resolute in goal.<\/p>\n Defensively, Connor Pettigrew<\/a> provided stability for the Chaps with a crucial save against former Chap Enzo Jaques<\/a> in the 28th minute, preserving the scoreline. Despite several corner kicks and a few shots from St. Mary’s, the Chaparrals’ defense held firm, closing the half at 0-0.<\/p>\n The second half began with more offensive pressure from LCU, as Nunez and Ty Gibbs<\/a> both tested the St. Mary’s goalkeeper with shots at the 48th and 50th minutes, respectively. Both attempts were saved, but they set the tone for a half dominated by the Chaps’ attacks. Despite numerous opportunities, including a corner kick at the 71st minute and several shots from Kade McKinzie<\/a>, the Chaps were unable to convert their chances into goals.<\/p>\n Pettigrew anchored the defense, making crucial saves against St. Mary’s attempts, including a key stop against Calum Murdoch in the 56th minute. As the half closed, both teams remained locked in a defensive battle, with the Chaparrals holding firm under pressure from St. Mary’s late-game attempts. The match concluded with a scoreless draw, as neither side managed to break the deadlock.<\/p>\n Nunez was active on the offensive end, leading the team with four shots, three of which were on target. McKinzie contributed to the attack with three shots, one of which was on goal. Gibbs matched McKinzie’s offensive output, registering three shots and one shot on goal.<\/p>\n GAME NOTES: NEXT UP:
