{"id":1865,"date":"2025-07-17T04:35:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T04:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/1865\/"},"modified":"2025-07-17T04:35:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T04:35:08","slug":"toronto-film-fest-chloe-zhao-paul-greengrass-rian-johnson-films","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/1865\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto Film Fest Chloe Zhao, Paul Greengrass, Rian Johnson Films"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Toronto\u00a0Film Festival has added to its 50th edition world premieres\u00a0the latest films by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/paul-greengrass\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paul-greengrass_1\" data-tag=\"paul-greengrass\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Greengrass<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/rian-johnson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rian-johnson_1\" data-tag=\"rian-johnson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rian Johnson<\/a>, Hikari, Agnieszka Holland and Canadian auteur Clement Virgo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tToronto programmers unveiled six news Gala titles on Wednesday, including world premieres for Nicholas Hytner\u2019s The Choral, with the U.K. director reteaming with writer Alan Bennett for a First World War drama that stars\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/ralph-fiennes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ralph Fiennes<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/jim-broadbent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jim Broadbent<\/a>\u00a0and has been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAlso getting a first look in Toronto is Derek Cianfrance\u2019s Roofman, an upcoming Paramount release that stars Channing Tatum as a real-life former Army Ranger who turns to robbing McDonald\u2019s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs. And there\u2019s a Canadian premiere for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/chloe-zhao\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chloe-zhao_1\" data-tag=\"chloe-zhao\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chloe Zhao<\/a>\u2018s Hamnet, an adaptation centering on William Shakespeare\u2019s wife that stars Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Emily Watson and Joe Alwyn. Earlier picked up by Focus Features, the historical drama is based on Maggie O\u2019Farrell\u2019s novel of the same name. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Roofman_Still_Hero.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"2001\" width=\"3000\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tChanning Tatum and Kirsten Dunst star in Roofman.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tParamount Pictures<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tToronto also added five world premieres to its Special Presentations sidebar. These include Johnson\u2019s third\u00a0Knives Out\u00a0installment,\u00a0Wake Up Dead Man,\u00a0for Netflix, which stars Daniel Craig as private detective Benoit Blanc\u00a0and a new cast of suspects in Josh O\u2019Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner and Kerry Washington, among others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAlso booked into Toronto is Brendan Fraser in\u00a0Rental Family, the Tokyo-set comedy-drama from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/beef\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Beef<\/a>\u00a0director Hikari and Searchlight Pictures; The Lost Bus, a wildfire thriller from director Paul Greengrass and Apple Original Films, and starring Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera; and Clement Virgo\u2019s the psychological thriller\u00a0Steal Away, about a teenager\u00a0bonding with a mysterious refugee taken in by her charitable family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThere\u2019s also a first look in Toronto for Polish writer and director Agnieszka Holland\u2019s new biographical film Franz, about author Franz Kafka and starring German actor Idan Weiss. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/toronto-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_toronto-film-festival_1\" data-tag=\"toronto-film-festival\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Film Festival<\/a>\u2018s 2025 edition is set to run Sept. 4 to 14.
