What\u2019s more New York than riding in a pedicab with Billy Joel\u2019s \u201cNew York State of Mind\u201d playing? How about having the \u201cPiano Man\u201d himself waving to you out the window of a nearby vehicle as you enjoy the moment?<\/p>\n
The legendary singer shared a video on Instagram<\/a> on July 21 that shows a pedicab driver blaring Joel\u2019s 1976 classic \u201cNew York State of Mind\u201d as he pedals two female customers around the Big Apple.<\/p>\n Joel, 76, is then seen surprising the group by putting down the window from the back seat of a vehicle to reveal that the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is right there in the flesh as his song plays.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re in a New York State of Mind\u2026always,\u201d he wrote in the caption.<\/p>\n The excited pedicab driver immediately pedals toward Joel after Joel\u2019s car drives up beside them.<\/p>\n \u201cYou see we are playing you, man,\u201d the driver says while reaching out for a handshake with Joel.<\/p>\n \u201cWe love you,\u201d one of the female passengers says. \u201cHow are you feeling?\u201d<\/p>\n Joel said in May he was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus<\/a>, a brain disorder in which cerebrospinal fluid builds up inside of the skull and presses on the brain, according to Cleveland Clinic<\/a>.<\/p>\n Joel\u2019s fans enjoyed the moment.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is excellent. I\u2019m also so glad she asked how you were feeling like a true New Yorker fam member,\u201d one person commented on Instagram with a heart emoji.<\/p>\n \u201cWe love you Billy .. Thank you for writing the song track to our lives,\u201d another commented, adding a heart emoji.<\/p>\n As for his health, Joel said on the July 21 episode of Bill Maher\u2019s podcast that he feels \u201cfine.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMy balance sucks,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s like being on a boat.\u201d<\/p>\n Joel said the cause of the condition is unknown, but he has taken it in stride. The condition is treatable and sometimes reversible<\/a>, according to Cleveland Clinic.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel good,\u201d Joel said. \u201cThey keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I\u2019m feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n Joel announced in May that he had canceled his upcoming shows due to the condition being exacerbated by performing.<\/p>\n His serendipitous encounter with the pedicab also comes amid the release of the two-part HBO documentary \u201cBilly Joel: And So It Goes,\u201d<\/a> in which Joel and his friends and family open up about his life<\/a>.<\/p>\n
