Maria Sholokhova and Lucia Urbanova became the first male or female duo to win the ITA All-American Championships in program history<\/p>\n
Sholokhova is the first Badger in program hisotry to capture both the ITA singles and doubles titles<\/p>\n
Sholokhova and Urbanova are All-Americans from outside the country (Russia and Czech Republic)<\/p>\n
Two members of the tennis team accomplished something no other Badgers duo has done before: Win the doubles championship at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The team is made up of Maria Sholokhova and Lucia Urbanova.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sholokhova is a senior tennis player who moved\u00a0to the United States,\u00a0from her home country of Russia, three years ago.<\/p>\n
She is the\u00a0first Badger in program history\u00a0to capture both the ITA singles and doubles titles.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe last season was pretty great, that\u00a0was my best season so far,\u201d said Sholokohva. \u201cHopefully this year we’re only going to keep on improving and also in doubles with Lucy, so I’m looking forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her duo partner freshman Urbanova\u00a0moved to the United States from the Czech Republic a month ago.<\/p>\n
Urbanova\u00a0said\u00a0winning\u00a0the title\u00a0was better than she could have hoped for.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn’t know how big this tournament is. And yeah, I mean, every time I’m playing, I’m trying to leave everything on the court. So, I was trying to do my best, of course, but I didn’t know how big is it. And then I’m actually like All-American. I didn’t know what it is, and then they told me, I was like, ‘wow,\u00a0this is amazing.’\u201d<\/p>\n
Urbanova and Sholokhova have only\u00a0played as\u00a0a team for a short amount of time.<\/p>\n
Urbanova said they\u00a0are “baseline grinders” who\u00a0play aggressively\u00a0to\u00a0win points, sets and matches.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaria is an amazing player. I think we are a really good team together and we can have a really good spring season,\u201d said Urbanova.<\/p>\n

With the recent win, the duo qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships\u00a0that will be held in\u00a0Orlando, Florida in November.<\/p>\n
Sholokhova said she is happy with how far she has come since moving to\u00a0Wisconsin\u00a0her freshman year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’m really proud of those results of winning the All-Americans, first time in singles for the Badgers and then this year winning first time in doubles with Lucy,\u201d said Sholokhova. \u201cSo really proud of\u00a0what I achieved, but hopefully I’ll get some more achievements this year.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MADISON, Wis.\u00a0\u2014\u00a0The Wisconsin Badgers tennis team is celebrating\u00a0an historic title\u00a0win.
