{"id":188431,"date":"2025-10-04T00:26:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-04T00:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/188431\/"},"modified":"2025-10-04T00:26:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-04T00:26:07","slug":"over-20k-b-c-healthcare-workers-set-to-join-the-bcgeu-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/188431\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 20K B.C. healthcare workers set to join the BCGEU strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In another blow to the provincial government, the BC General Employees\u2019 Union (BCGEU) has announced that nearly 23,000 B.C. healthcare workers are set to join the ongoing BCGEU strike.<\/p>\n<p>In a media release sent out late Friday afternoon, the BCGEU said that members of the Community Bargaining Association (CBA), which includes 13,000 employees represented by the BCGEU, had announced that talks with the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) had broken down, reaching an impasse.<\/p>\n<p>According to the BCGEU, those CBA members work in critical, community-based healthcare services around the province. Some of the places that could be impacted include drug and alcohol treatment centres, adult daycare, detox and emergency shelters, women\u2019s clinics, seniors\u2019 services, mental health group homes and home support, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The last agreement expired this March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite bargaining since March, the employer has failed to meaningfully engage on key non-monetary issues that matter most to frontline workers,\u201d the BCGEU said in a release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCBA members serve some of the most vulnerable people in B.C.,\u201d said Scott De Long, CBA Bargaining Chair and BCGEU Vice-President Community Health Services, in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey work on the front lines of community health\u2014often in precarious, high-risk environments\u2014and they\u2019ve been underpaid and undervalued for over 30 years.
