{"id":188834,"date":"2025-10-04T05:01:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-04T05:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/188834\/"},"modified":"2025-10-04T05:01:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-04T05:01:09","slug":"conor-mcgregor-and-ufc-pay-tribute-after-jon-jones-nfl-star-brother-passes-away-at-39","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/188834\/","title":{"rendered":"Conor McGregor and UFC pay tribute after Jon Jones\u2019 NFL star brother passes away at 39"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Arthur Jones is no longer with us.<\/p>\n<p>The sports world mourns the loss of Arthur Jones, a Super Bowl Champion and eldest brother to <a href=\"https:\/\/bloodyelbow.com\/2024\/11\/05\/top-10-ufc-fighters-of-all-time-includes-conor-mcgregor-jon-jones-and-two-formidable-heavyweight-champions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all time<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/bloodyelbow.com\/tag\/jon-jones\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jon Jones<\/a> and fellow NFL star Chandler Jones.<\/p>\n<p>Jones passed away on Friday morning at the age of 39. No cause of death was given.<\/p>\n<p>Jones, a former defensive lineman, won Super Bowl 47 with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013. He also played for the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Redskins.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/bloodyelbow.com\/tag\/ufc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UFC<\/a> paid its respects to Jones as did their fighter roster.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-666424966-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Jon Jones and Arthur Jones at UFC 210\" \/>Photo by Jeff Bottari\/Zuffa LLC\/Zuffa LLC via Getty ImagesUFC world reacts to Arthur Jones passing away on Friday<\/p>\n<p>Jones was in attendance for a number of his younger brother\u2019s UFC title fights, never seeing him lose.<\/p>\n<p>Following the unfortunate news on Friday, the premier MMA promotion rolled out a tribute for the late NFL star.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUFC is saddened to hear about the passing of Arthur Jones,\u201d UFC wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur thoughts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bloodyelbow.com\/tag\/conor-mcgregor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Conor McGregor<\/a>, the biggest superstar the sport has ever seen, also paid tribute to Jones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery sad to hear this news,\u201d McGregor wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArthur was a great man, a friendly giant! God speed Arthur Jones,\u201d McGregor added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTruly sad to see someone\u2019s life gone so soon. Our sincere condolences to you Jon Jones and the entire Jones family,\u201d former UFC fighter Josh Thomson commented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod Bless Big Bro,\u201d UFC star Clay Guida wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA good dude,\u201d former UFC fighter Derek Brunson said of Arthur Jones.<\/p>\n<p>Jon Jones wanted brother Arthur to join him in the UFC<\/p>\n<p>There was a point in time where Arthur Jones wanted to take an MMA fight.<\/p>\n<p>Like his younger brother Jon, Arthur was a standout wrestler in high school and he even considered a move to MMA during an NFL Lockout in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArthur\u2019s considering it and he\u2019s training,\u201d Jon Jones told <a href=\"http:\/\/en.espn.co.uk\/ufc\/sport\/story\/85210.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ESPN<\/a> in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just talked to him today and he said \u2018man, my jiu-jitsu\u2019s getting so much better.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess he\u2019s using his wrestling base, and his size alone is crazy to deal with. He\u2019s just a smart dude. I think he\u2019s going to do well if he ever gets cut or leaves the NFL. I\u2019m biased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really want my brother to be in the UFC with me; that would be so sweet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s always been a better wrestler than me,\u201d Jones said of his older brother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s always better than me. I\u2019ve never been a team captain. He\u2019s been a team captain at everything, the football team, the wrestling team. Since day one, he\u2019s been a leader. He\u2019s just gifted.
