Hyrox competition in Paris this October<\/a>, a grueling race that combines nearly five miles of running with eight strength-based exercises.<\/p>\n\u201cYou got this, you got this, you got this,\u201d Freeman encourages himself during workouts. \u201cYou got this, come on, come on, go for it, finish strong!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m 80 \u2026\u201d Freeman said. \u201cRegrettably that\u2019s what my license says. I was blessed with good genes and good hair and stuff like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
At his age, most people slow down, but Freeman has no plans to ease up. Inside Legacy Fit, his trainer, Christian Vitagliano, pushes him five days a week.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s got that dog in him, he\u2019s got that fight!\u201d Vitagliano said.<\/p>\n
\u201cShow them how it\u2019s done, show them something they haven\u2019t seen before,\u201d Vitagliano adds during sessions.<\/p>\n
Freeman admitted the workouts are tough. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s made it pretty tough on me,\u201d he said. When asked if it\u2019s a love-hate relationship, he responded, \u201cYeah, mostly hate.\u201d<\/p>\n
The drive behind Freeman\u2019s training comes from more than personal goals \u2014 it\u2019s a family affair, inspired by his grandson, Jordan Freeman, in New York, who frequently participates in the Hyrox. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s not just your typical grandfather too,\u201d Jordan said. \u201cI think he thought it was cool what I was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
The bond between the two generations is clear. In fact, the two share the same birthday. <\/p>\n
\u201cFor me it\u2019s a lifetime memory. It creates a memory for my family and hopefully as a motivator to \u2013 you can do it! Just do it \u2013 Nike, is that what they say?\u201d Freeman said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo see roles reversed a little bit and see him picking up some of my passions, it feels good and it\u2019s special,\u201d Jordan added.<\/p>\n
At the finish line, soreness may take over, but the support system is ready. \u201cEven if we\u2019re crawling to the finish line \u2014 I\u2019ll put him on my back if I have to,\u201d Jordan said.<\/p>\n
For Freeman, it\u2019s not about trophies or trainers. \u201cI just envision us finishing and hugging,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis life has always been about me, his grandkids, and about his family \u2013 so I really want him to feel it for himself and realize you accomplished this,\u201d Jordan said.<\/p>\n
With that bond pushing them forward, Freeman continues his training, hoping to inspire both his family and anyone watching.<\/p>\n
