{"id":189846,"date":"2025-10-04T17:09:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-04T17:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/189846\/"},"modified":"2025-10-04T17:09:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-04T17:09:08","slug":"penguins-place-defenceman-ryan-graves-on-waivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/189846\/","title":{"rendered":"Penguins place defenceman Ryan Graves on waivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the more expensive players on the <a class=\"sn-team-post-link\" data-team=\"pittsburgh-penguins\" data-league=\"nhl\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/teams\/pittsburgh-penguins\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> roster could be on his way to the AHL.<\/p>\n<p>Defenceman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/players\/ryan-graves\/d1d9d464-b904-49d1-a9ef-9e5b6e312a85\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-player=\"d1d9d464-b904-49d1-a9ef-9e5b6e312a85\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ryan Graves<\/a> is set to be placed on waivers and will be assigned to the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton Penguins should he clear, the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/penguins\/status\/1974497259095040196\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">team announced<\/a> Saturday. <\/p>\n<p>Graves is entering Year 3 of a six-year, $27 million contract signed ahead of the 2023-24 season. <\/p>\n<p>He carries a $4.5 million cap hit for this season and is slated to hit unrestricted free agency after the 2028-29 season unless he&#8217;s bought out before then.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old struggled last season, finishing with only one goal and four points \u2014 both career lows \u2014 in 61 games. He carried a minus-15 and averaged only 14:59 of ice time per game, his lowest mark since his rookie season.<\/p>\n<p>Graves, a native of Yarmouth, N.S., joined the Penguins in free agency ahead of the 2023-24 season.
