Sloane Stephens has not played many matches at all on the WTA Tour this year.<\/p>\n

Stephens, who is a former US Open champion<\/a>, has only played five matches in 2025, all of which she has lost.<\/p>\n

There has been a big break in these matches, with Stephens only recently returning to tennis after suffering a foot injury<\/a> that kept her out of action for seven months.<\/p>\n

Despite losing her match at the Guadalajara Open<\/a>, Stephens provided a positive fitness update<\/a>, but she had not taken to the court since.<\/p>\n

Now after being questioned by fans, Stephens<\/a> has confirmed what her plans are going forward.<\/p>\n

After making her return to competitive tennis at the Guadalajara Open in early September, Stephens lost to qualifier Lucrezia Stefanini.<\/p>\n

This extended her overall losing streak to 11 matches, with her last win coming all the way back at Wimbledon<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n

Following her return to the WTA Tour<\/a> in Guadalajara, many expected Stephens to continue her comeback almost straight away.<\/p>\n

However, that has not been the case and Stephens was asked if she plans to keep playing this year when doing a question and answer on Instagram.<\/p>\n

In her response, Stephens confirmed that she was in fact planning to play again soon and once again in Mexico, a country where she has won two of her eight WTA titles.<\/p>\n

Stephens wrote, \u201cThank you! Yup, my next tournament is @abierto_tampico.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tournament in Tampico is a WTA 125 level tournament, which is a step down from the main tour.<\/p>\n

As a result of her recent inactivity on the WTA Tour and lack of form, Stephens has suffered a dramatic fall down the rankings.<\/p>\n

Stephens is currently the world number 1090, which is her lowest ranking since she began her professional tennis career in 2008, with just 14 points to her name.<\/p>\n

While this does not appear to be a good thing on the surface, it means that Stephens does not have any pressure to defend points and is only likely to be climbing the rankings if she keeps playing.<\/p>\n
