{"id":191486,"date":"2025-10-05T14:48:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-05T14:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/191486\/"},"modified":"2025-10-05T14:48:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-05T14:48:11","slug":"life-with-joey-logano-includes-bid-to-keep-alive-cup-title-hopes-searching-for-frogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/191486\/","title":{"rendered":"Life with Joey Logano includes bid to keep alive Cup title hopes, searching for frogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CONCORD, N.C. \u2014 Even with three Cup championships, more than all but four drivers in NASCAR history, Joey Logano can\u2019t shake the feeling of when he lost the crown in 2014 in his first title race appearance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat might have been my only chance to win a championship. \u201cThat\u2019s how I felt, and I don\u2019t think I\u2019d feel any different today,\u201d Logano told NBC Sports. \u201cIf we lost last year, I might say that might have been my last chance to win a championship. Maybe so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Logano has made the championship race a record six times since the series went to a playoff format in 2014 that ends with a one-race shootout for the crown. He enters today\u2019s elimination race at the Charlotte Roval (3 p.m. ET on USA Network) holding the final transfer spot to the Round of 8.<\/p>\n<p>Even with his playoff success \u2014 40.6% of his Cup victories have come in the playoffs \u2014 Logano knows there is no guarantee he will make it back to the championship race this year or beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen tomorrow,\u201d he said. \u201cYou don\u2019t know how your cars are going to be. You don\u2019t know how you\u2019re going to be. You might get hurt. There might be a life-altering thing that makes you have to change what you\u2019re doing. Every day could be your last.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"Link\" aria-label=\"What to watch for in today\u2019s Cup playoff race at the Charlotte Roval\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nascar\/news\/what-to-watch-for-in-todays-cup-playoff-race-at-the-charlotte-roval\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"nbc_nas_comcentroval_251003.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1759675688_61_\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>CONCORD, N.C. \u2014 Four drivers will be eliminated from playoff contention Sunday at the Charlotte Roval, but the driver to watch could be one who is not racing for a championship. <\/p>\n<p>At age 35, Logano is completing his 17th season in Cup \u2014 meaning he\u2019s spent nearly half his life racing in NASCAR\u2019s premier series.<\/p>\n<p>While more chances appear likely for Logano to add to his Cup championship total, his focus is not on what could be but what is.<\/p>\n<p>The reigning Cup champion leads Ross Chastain by 13 points for the final transfer spot ahead of today\u2019s race. Bubba Wallace trails Logano by 26 points, Tyler Reddick is 29 points behind Logano and Austin Cindric is 48 points back.<\/p>\n<p>It was a year ago that Logano left Charlotte Motor Speedway thinking his hopes for another driver title were over when he failed to secure a transfer spot.<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"Link\" aria-label=\"Charlotte Roval starting lineup: Tyler Reddick claims second pole of the season\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nascar\/news\/charlotte-roval-starting-lineup-tyler-reddick-claims-second-pole-of-the-season\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"NASCAR Cup Series Bank of America ROVAL 400 - Practice\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1759675690_17_\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tyler Reddick will be joined by Shane van Gisbergen on the front row for Sunday\u2019s Cup playoff elimination race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was kind of starting to move on,\u201d Logano said of the time after that race. \u201cI also knew that I was still in the owner\u2019s championship at that point, so I had a lot to race for. I kind of accepted the fact that we didn\u2019t do enough. We had a good day that day \u2026 but it wasn\u2019t enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess there\u2019s two ways of looking at it, because on one hand it\u2019s everything you work for and everything you want and when the dream dies it\u2019s sad. It sucks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut you have keep some perspective on life, which is hard to do when you\u2019re in the middle of (the playoffs). That\u2019s hard to do, but you kind of have to. You\u2019ve got to have some other things going on. Sometimes it helps offset some losses in other ways, which you can also win in some other areas. It kind of keeps you flowing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"Link\" aria-label=\"Tyler Reddick says 4-month son is doing better but \u2018we\u2019re definitely not in the clear\u2019\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nascar\/news\/tyler-reddick-says-4-month-son-is-doing-better-but-were-definitely-not-in-the-clear\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"NASCAR Cup Series Brickyard 400 Presented by PPG - Practice\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1759675690_974_\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tyler Reddick\u2019s wife Alexa took their son to hospital last week and wrote on Instagram that he was showing signs of heart failure.<\/p>\n<p>For Logano that is family with wife Brittany and children Hudson (age 7), Jameson (5) and Emilia (3).<\/p>\n<p>While Logano\u2019s focus is on winning a championship, he says a priority remains time with family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s even more important because you only have a little bit of that before it\u2019s gone, before they grow up,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s always like God, family and work. It\u2019s got to be in that order. That\u2019s how I see it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife is awesome. He\u2019s the most like me when it comes to just wanting to drive, over-competitive, has a fit when he loses. He\u2019s me at my rawest form.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy middle child (Jameson). He\u2019s a complete opposite in a lot of ways but in some ways pretty similar. His interests are a lot different. \u2026 And my daughter (Emilia) is just perfect. She\u2019s awesome. She\u2019s the sweetest thing in world. Sassy little thing but she\u2019s sweet, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re typical little kids. They do things that sometimes surprise you and sometimes you\u2019re like why are we still doing this? I thought we were past this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s any different than any other home. \u2026 They want to play. We try to keep them outside as much as we can. Jameson is out looking for turtles and snakes and frogs all day long. That\u2019s what he wants to do. For all that comes with winning a title, few things are better for Logano that giving car owner Roger Penske another series title. It was Penske, who signed Logano for the 2013 season with Joe Gibbs Racing releasing Logano to sign former Cup champion Matt Kenseth.<\/p>\n<p>Penske provided a lifeline for Logano, who has excelled since joining Team Penske.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to (win a title) for him because he\u2019s done a lot for me,\u201d Logano said. \u201cThere was nobody else looking to pick me up (for the 2013 season). He\u2019s helped me out in a lot of different ways. He cares in ways that you wouldn\u2019t think that somebody of that caliber, that level, just being that busy and stuff going on, that would even think about the little things that are going on in somebody\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I want to win for him. That\u2019s why I want to continue the legacy of what has been built here. \u2026 Someone helps you out, what do you want to do?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf your parents have done a lot for you, what do you want your parents to be? Proud of you. You want them to be proud of what you become and what you\u2019re doing.
