HATTIESBURG, Miss. \u2013\u00a0The ULM soccer team (8-2-3, 3-0-3 Sun Belt) captured a 3-1 victory in Hattiesburg against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (2-10-1, 1-5 Sun Belt) on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 5). The win keeps ULM undefeated in conference play, as well as marks the first win at Southern Miss for the Warhawks.

\nThe home team pushed heavy on the offense as the first half began, but ULM held on, fighting to find the first score. An early yellow card for ULM set up a potential scoring opportunity for Southern Miss, but to no avail. Back to back corner kicks drawn by the Golden Eagles also brought potential scores, but the Warhawk defense held strong and prevented a goal.

\nIn the 19th\u00a0minute, ULM began to turn on the jets, drawing a corner kick and posting two shots on goal. After Leane Commaret<\/a> notched a free kick in the 25th\u00a0minute, Skylar Blaise<\/a> found Vienna Tokam<\/a> for the first goal of the day and the 1-0 lead. The goal was Tokam’s second goal of the season and Blaise’s second assist of the season.

\nAnother yellow card for the Warhawks and subsequent fouls placed the ball in Golden Eagle control, Chloe Taylor driving down the field to find the equalizer in the 31st\u00a0minute. A corner for ULM came just 45 seconds later, a header coming from Libby Holmes<\/a> to set up a score by Giulia Franco<\/a>. The score was Franco’s third goal of the season and Holmes notched her third assist. Jaden Masters<\/a> looked to find the third goal as time ran down in the first half, drawing corner kicks and posting multiple shots, but to no avail as the half ended with ULM ahead, 2-1.

\nThe Warhawks opened the second half just as strong as the first, finding multiple shots early. In the 56th\u00a0minute, Margret Edda Bjarnadottir<\/a> knocked the ball to Blaise, who hit the back of the net to secure the victory. The goal was Blaise’s ninth goal of the season and Bjarnadottir’s eighth assist.\u00a0

\nMultiple corner kicks for the Warhawks gave way to multiple scoring opportunities, but to no avail. After the backline and goalkeeper Jen Handy<\/a> prevented an additional score from Southern Miss, ULM captured its first win in Hattiesburg in program history.

\nBlaise led the team with four shots, also posting a goal and an assist. Bjarnadottir and Holmes also registered assists, recording one and two shots, respectively. Franco and Masters each also posted two shots in the contest. Handy recorded a save and allowed a goal in 90 minutes of play.

\nThe Warhawks notched a total of 17 shots to Southern Miss’ five, also leading in corners 6-5. Golden Eagle goalkeeper Maddie Ellis prevented a larger deficit with six saves in the match.
