<\/p>\n PHILADELPHIA, Pa.\u00a0— The Cornell women’s tennis team put together a strong showing at Penn’s Cissie Leary Invitational over the weekend, notching 10 singles and four doubles victories against a competitive field at the Hamlin and Hecht Tennis Centers.<\/p>\n The Big Red opened the tournament with a dominant performance against Saint Joseph’s, winning six of eight first-round singles matches. Michelle Ryndin<\/a>, Sage Loudon<\/a>, Victoria Zhao<\/a>, Dylan Gelber<\/a>, Andrea Martinez de Los Rios and Martina Marica<\/a> each posted straight-set wins, combining to drop just 10 games across all six victories.<\/p>\n In second-round action, Gelber and Tanya Fan<\/a> picked up solid wins over Temple and Maryland, respectively. Emma Baker<\/a> battled through a tight three-set tiebreak to win 4-6, 7-5, 14-12 over Temple’s Tianni Zhou. Despite several three-set efforts, Cornell dropped four of its seven matches in round two, including narrow defeats for Martinez de Los Rios and Loudon.<\/p>\n The final round proved more challenging, as the Big Red faced off against William & Mary. Martinez de Los Rios was the lone Cornell player to come away with a win, rallying from a set down to defeat Rebeka Svabikova 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.<\/p>\n Cornell’s doubles tandems got off to a fast start on Day 1, with the pair of Ryndin and Zhao defeating Penn’s Stojanovski and Saw, 8-2. Loudon and Baker edged another Penn duo in a tight 8-7 match, while Gelber and Marica secured an 8-7 win over Saint Joseph’s.<\/p>\n Loudon and Baker stayed hot in round two, blanking Maryland’s Challa and Donnelly, 8-0, but William & Mary swept Cornell’s doubles teams on the final day.<\/p>\n The Big Red will send a roster of players for the ITA Regional Championships beginning on Thursday, Oct. 9.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
