<\/p>\n ST. PAUL, Minn. \u2013 The Macalester College women’s soccer team faced Augsburg University in a hard-fought MIAC match Monday night at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The Scots (3-6-1, 0-4-1 MIAC) created some good scoring chances but ultimately lost, 1-0. The Auggies improve to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC.<\/p>\n In the 28th minute, Jayla Ponce received a long pass from Piper Jarombek that sent her in behind the defense. Her shot was deflected by Macalester junior goalkeeper Abigail Heuga<\/a> (San Francisco, Calif.\/Urban School of San Francisco) but still found the net for a 1-0 lead. The Scots pushed for the equalizer in the second half but were unable to get on the scoreboard. In the 72nd minute, it appeared that Macalester had scored, but a foul was called just before first year forward Mikayla Edmunds<\/a> (Falls Church, Va.\/Georgetown Visitation) put the ball in the goal. Junior forward Adi Nhouyvanisvong<\/a> (Wayzata, Minn.\/Minnetonka) had back-to-back chances in the 81st and 82nd minutes, with Augsburg goalkeeper Claire Smothers making two outstanding saves to keep Macalester scoreless.<\/p>\n Heuga registered four saves in goal for the Scots, with Smothers also making four saves for Augsburg, which held a slight 8-7 edge in shots taken.<\/p>\n Macalester continues MIAC play with a home game against the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, Oct. 11.
