LAS VEGAS \u2013 Yana Santos met with MMA Junkie and other media members Saturday after her win over Macy Chiasson at UFC 320.<\/p>\n
Santos (17-8 MMA, 7-5 UFC) outworked Chiasson (10-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) for a unanimous decision on the prelims at T-Mobile Arena. She also got 35 percent of Chiasson’s purse after the Season 28 “Ultimate Fighter” winner missed weight \u2013 something Santos took big-time issue with.<\/p>\n

But it’s nothing new for her. Four of her past seven opponents have missed their marks on the scale: Ketlen Vieira, Irene Aldana, Chelsea Chandler and Chiasson. She’s also used to working past it: She’s now won three of those four fights when her opponent blows past the mark on the scale.<\/p>\n
But to say she’s getting tired of this trend is an understatement, and she thinks the penalties for weight infractions aren’t severe enough. Heftier fines and a point deduction in the fight, she thinks, could do wonders.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlmost every single person misses weight (against me),” Santos said. \u201cNot a single person came to me to say, ‘Sorry she missed weight. Do you agree to fight?’ No one asked me if I want to fight or not (at a catchweight). No one says sorry.<\/p>\n
“After the fight, I came to her and said, ‘You should at least say sorry.’ She told me, ‘You got paid (an extra 35 percent) for this. Why complain?’ It’s nice to get paid, but I’m not fighting for money. You don’t see enough punishment for fighters missing weight. I think it’s the biggest reason for fighters missing weight. If you have at least a 50 percent and a 1-point deduction (in the fight), it will be much less people who (miss weight).”<\/p>\n
