The NASCAR<\/a> Cup Series Round of 12 finale at the Charlotte ROVAL on Sunday got a 0.80 rating and 1.544 million viewers on USA Network, per Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal<\/a>. There is not a direct comparison from last year\u2019s race, which aired on NBC. <\/p>\n

However, that race had 2.4 million viewers. As part of the new media rights deal, NBC is only airing four races this season. NBC had the regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway and will have the last three playoff races, including the championship race at Phoenix Raceway. <\/p>\n

The playoff ratings have taken a hit as a result, routinely failing to get at or north of two million viewers. Of course, the NFL<\/a> is back as well. Yes, that\u2019s something NASCAR has to compete with every year. <\/p>\n

Shane van Gisbergen gets it done at Charlotte ROVAL<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s race was hardly the most exciting, that is, until the end of the race as Joey Logano and Ross Chastain battled for the final transfer spot into the Round of 8. It was Logano who edged out Chastain, who couldn\u2019t hold off Denny Hamlin on the final lap. That pass was the difference, and Logano will continue racing for a fourth championship. <\/p>\n

At the front of the pack, a familiar name once again flexed his muscles. Shane van Gisbergen led 57-of-109 laps, winning his fifth race of the season, all on road courses. He beat Kyle Larson to the start\/finish line by a whopping 15.160 seconds. Van Gisbergen is only a rookie, but he\u2019s got quite the case to already be the best road course racer in the history of NASCAR.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat an awesome race, Kyle [Larson] and Christopher [Bell] driving really good and got a little rough. But man, the battle was awesome. And we had a fast Chevy,\u201d van Gisbergen said after the race. \u201cI lost it a little bit at the start of Stage 3 and whatever they did for the rest of the race, unbelievable. Really enjoyed that and was a long time waiting, hoping the yellow wasn\u2019t going to come out. <\/p>\n

\u201cI got [Larson] in a little bump at [Turn] 7 by accident, and he slammed me, and that sort of set it off, but I\u2019m all for it. It was fun. I hope he\u2019s not too pissed off.
