SANTA BARBARA, Calif. \u2014 The Mustangs delivered a strong performance in their first taste of intra-conference competition this season, traveling to UC Santa Barbara for the Big West Masters Qualifier; a feeder tournament for the ITA Conference Masters Championships ahead of the Fall NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n
Jovan Lubbe<\/a>, Raz Haviv<\/a>, Sean Kamyshev<\/a>, and Luc Hoeijmans<\/a> represented the Mustangs in the Masters division, while Aaron Eliscu<\/a>, Denzel Seetso<\/a>, Sean Ferguson<\/a>, and Derek Hafiz<\/a> competed in the Invitational division.<\/p>\n Cal Poly opened the tournament impressively, going 7-3 in singles matches across both divisions. Lubbe and Haviv advanced to the Masters quarterfinals, while Eliscu, Seetso, and Ferguson moved on to the Invitational quarterfinals. Seetso’s match over Patterson marked the Botswana international’s first collegiate win.<\/p>\n

\nDoubles launched the second day, with Lubbe and Kamyshev winning their first match to advance to the Masters quarterfinals. In singles, Lubbe earned another victory to move into the Masters semifinals. Haviv was eliminated in the quarterfinals but pushed Azuma Visaya, the eventual Masters singles champion, to three sets. Eliscu also recorded two wins over UC Santa Barbara opponents to reach the Invitationals finals.<\/p>\n

\nThe final day saw Cal Poly’s Masters representatives narrowly edged out, ending the Mustangs’ bid for ITA Conference Masters qualification. Lubbe fell in the semifinals to eventual champion Visaya, finishing as Cal Poly’s highest-placing singles player in the Masters bracket after a fourth-place finish, which included a playoff loss to UC Irvine’s Fardanesh. Elsewhere, Eliscu battled hard for the Invitational title but ultimately fell to UCSB’s Avendano.
