Taylor Swift<\/a> shared an unexpected detail about her close friend Ed Sheeran<\/a> during a recent television appearance, explaining why the British singer and 2024 \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d<\/a> guest judge learned about her engagement to Travis Kelce<\/a> through social media rather than a personal call.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old pop star appeared on \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/a>\u201d to promote her new album \u201cThe Life Of A Showgirl\u201d and discuss her August engagement to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. During the show, Swift participated in a game where Fallon presented various rumors about her, asking which ones were true.<\/p>\n

The Phone-Free Friend<\/p>\n

When Fallon inquired whether Sheeran discovered the engagement news via Instagram, Swift confirmed the rumor was accurate. However, she quickly offered context for the situation, revealing an unusual aspect of Sheeran\u2019s lifestyle.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t have a phone! He doesn\u2019t have a phone! This is one thing I do love about him, it\u2019s very eccentric, love it!\u201d Swift explained. \u201cBut when I\u2019m going through, being like, \u2018hey, hey, who should we call? Who should we FaceTime?\u2019 I\u2019m going through my texts, and being like, who have I texted within the last month of my life. And he just wasn\u2019t there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift elaborated on the challenge of contacting the \u201cShape Of You\u201d singer. \u201cBecause you have to like email him and then if you want to FaceTime he has to find an iPad and they have to give it to him like a child, like how you give the iPad to a child!\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Despite the communication mishap, Swift expressed her affection for Sheeran. \u201cThis is one of my absolute favourite people on the planet and then when the news came out I was like, \u2018Oh my god! We forgot to call Ed!\u2019 Oh no, he is like family but he doesn\u2019t have a phone,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

The two artists and fellow \u201cMega Mentors\u201d on \u201cThe Voice,\u201d have maintained a close friendship since meeting in 2012. Over the course of their thirteen-year relationship, they\u2019ve collaborated on multiple tracks, including 2013\u2019s \u201cEverything Has Changed\u201d and 2017\u2019s \u201cEnd Game.\u201d Sheeran opened for Swift during her Red tour, and Swift brought him out as a special guest during her Eras tour at Wembley Stadium.<\/p>\n

Swift has previously described Sheeran<\/a> as a \u201csecond brother.\u201d The pair has admitted to regularly confiding in each other and discussing their creative work together.<\/p>\n

Engagement Details and Ring Reveal<\/p>\n

During her appearance on The Tonight Show, Swift also showcased her substantial engagement ring<\/a>, which reportedly cost between $700,000 and $1,000,000. Host Fallon joked about being \u201cblinded\u201d by the jewelry as Swift explained she looks at the ring \u201cconstantly.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer shared details about how Kelce, 36, orchestrated the proposal<\/a> at his home following her appearance on his \u201cNew Heights\u201d podcast. \u201cI think for Travis the podcast was just sort of like a distraction, sort of ruse, to keep me not looking out the windows of the house,\u201d Swift explained.<\/p>\n

She noticed Kelce seemed uncharacteristically anxious before the proposal. \u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2018My heart is racing, I just really want \u2013 I know how much this means to you. I really want this to be what you hoped it would be.\u2019 \u2018Cause we had been talking about doing the podcast and announcing the album,\u201d Swift recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s professionally not a nervous person,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd so he was like, \u2018Do you want to go and just walk around the backyard and have a glass of wine?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m always going to want to do that.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift discovered that Kelce had covered all the windows in his house with blackout drapes. This prevented her from seeing the elaborate floral display he\u2019d arranged in the backyard.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then I realized exactly why all of the windows were curtained and why he was nervous. It was the best possible case scenario,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

The singer expressed her excitement about spending her life with Kelce. \u201cHe\u2019s just my favourite person I\u2019ve ever met, no offense to everyone else. The fact that this is the person that I get to hang out with every day forever is just like, that\u2019s the whole thing of it,\u201d she told Fallon.<\/p>\n

Swift revealed that Kelce \u201chad it for a really long time before he gave it to me,\u201d adding: \u201cHe custom did this and designed it with this amazing jeweler who he made it with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s new album, \u201cThe Life Of A Showgirl,\u201d was released on October 3, following her 2024 album, \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department.\u201d The record reportedly sold 2.7 million copies in its first 24 hours, breaking Spotify\u2019s record for the most-streamed album in a single day in 2025.<\/p>\n
