There have been a lot of big retirements from both the ATP and WTA Tours this year.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the most high-profile names have come from the WTA Tour<\/a>, with the likes of Simona Halep<\/a>, Caroline Garcia<\/a>, Eugenie Bouchard<\/a> and Petra Kvitova all ending their careers<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n

There have also been some notable names leaving the ATP Tour<\/a> as well in 2025, including Richard Gasquet<\/a> and Fabio Fognini retiring from tennis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, a more lower-profile ATP player has now announced that his tennis career is coming to an end.<\/p>\n

That player is Enzo Couacaud, the 30-year-old Frenchman who is currently ranked outside the top 550 in the ATP singles rankings.<\/p>\n

Having not played a match since the Rennes Challenger last month, where Couacaud retired from his singles match, he has now decided to make a big announcement.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Instagram, Couacaud wrote, \u201cToday, it is with great emotion that I announce my retirement from sports. Tennis has given me everything: immense joys, unforgettable battles, trips, meetings that will remain engraved forever. But most of all, he forged me as a man.<\/p>\n

\u201cI leave the short ones in peace, with the certainty that I have always given my best, in victory and in defeat. Thank you to my family, my relatives, my team and everyone who supported me in the hardest and the best times. Your trust and love have been my greatest strength. <\/p>\n

\u201cTo you, the fans, thank you for believing in me, for rocking with me, for sharing in this journey. A page is turning, but the book is far from over. Room for new projects, new passions, and, who knows, maybe other ways to give back to tennis everything it has given me. Thank you for everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Couacaud has been inundated with messages on his post, including from US Open mixed doubles champion Andrea Vavassori<\/a>, who simply wrote, \u201cGrande my friend!\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Couacaud may not be the most well-known player on the tennis circuit, that does not mean he has not found his fair share of success.<\/p>\n

This includes reaching the final of the junior Wimbledon<\/a> doubles event in 2013, where he and partner Stefano Napolitano were beaten by the Australian pairing of Nick Kyrgios<\/a> and Thanasi Kokkinakis<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Couacaud has also won three ATP Challenger singles titles in his career, but perhaps his most famous career moment came at the Australian Open<\/a> in 2023.<\/p>\n

After winning his first ever match at the Melbourne major, Couacaud set up a contest with Novak Djokovic<\/a>, who at the time was the nine-time Australian Open champion.<\/p>\n

Despite the odds being heavily stacked against him, Couacaud was able to push Djokovic and won a set against him in a four set defeat.<\/p>\n

While this may not appear so significant, this was actually the only set that Djokovic lost in his entire run to a 10th Australian Open title.<\/p>\n
