Marjorie Taylor Greene broke sharply with her party leaders on Wednesday as they tried to project a united front in the deepening standoff with Democrats over health care and the government shutdown, calling on Speaker Mike Johnson to bring the House back into session and warning that Americans would be hammered by higher costs if her party doesn\u2019t help right the ship.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8mpq00063b6n6mquv4ac@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Greene, a staunchly conservative Georgia Republican, warned that her party would face backlash from voters if rising health care costs are not addressed, underscoring the growing rift between the prominent Trump ally and GOP leaders.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8mpq00073b6n3jbptdzm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cEveryone\u2019s just getting destroyed,\u201d Greene told CNN in an exclusive, wide-ranging interview from her House office. \u201cLook, Democrats, you created this mess. Republicans, you have no solutions. You haven\u2019t come up with a new plan in place, and we\u2019re not even talking about it, and it is hurting so many people.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8mpq00083b6nzcmsoxus@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The issue is front-and-center in the feud over the government shutdown, with Democrats demanding an extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies that were bolstered during the Covid-19 pandemic to help families pay for health insurance. The loss of those subsidies, set to expire at year\u2019s end, are expected to drive up health care premiums \u2014 and Democrats say they must be dealt with immediately as a condition for their votes to reopen the government.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8mpq00093b6npaay4oqb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Republicans say those negotiations must wait until after Democrats support a straight extension to fund the government until November 21. Johnson says he won\u2019t bring the House back into session until Senate Democrats vote for the stopgap bill, which the House passed last month.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8mpq000a3b6nqtzr55v3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Greene said that Johnson\u2019s approach is a mistake.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgi6vkz100003b6n01xtt4q8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI think he should really bring the House back in session for many reasons,\u201d Greene said, lamenting that the regular appropriations process and important meetings between members, including on health care, are on hold. \u201cAny serious speaker of the House is going to build consensus within his conference behind a plan. It\u2019s not something secret that gets worked on in a committee.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8y9i000g3b6napqbia9o@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThis cliff is coming for millions and millions of Americans where their health insurance premiums are about to skyrocket, so put your money where your mouth is,\u201d she said, while calling for broader changes to the nation\u2019s health care policy as she contended that the Obama-era Affordable Care Act drove up her family\u2019s health care costs dramatically.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8y9i000h3b6nnsn1sohc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Greene\u2019s comments are the latest in a series of steps she\u2019s taken that have isolated her from her party\u2019s leadership \u2014 and the White House. An outspoken critic of Ukraine, she has also ratcheted up her criticism of Israel and called the Gaza war a \u201cgenocide.\u201d And she\u2019s one of a handful of Republicans trying to force a full House vote to seek the release of the Jeffrey Epstein case files, while urging Trump to meet with the victims of the late convicted sex offender, saying it would be a \u201cgood thing to hear their personal stories.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8y9i000i3b6nwk334t5t@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Asked if Trump was straying from MAGA principles, Greene said: \u201cI\u2019d never speak on behalf of the president, but I don\u2019t think he\u2019s always getting the best advice.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8y9i000j3b6ntb7dc276@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI very much support the president, but I also work for my district, and I made that clear over and over again, that\u2019s who has voted for me,\u201d she added, pointing out that her district will be \u201ccrushed\u201d by high health insurance premiums.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8y9i000k3b6nk66vg105@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But Greene also made clear she didn\u2019t think her party was winning the PR war over the shutdown, criticizing the GOP for pinning the blame squarely on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer without trying to cut a deal themselves.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgih8y9i000l3b6nhwtzv4ce@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI think the politics are terrible,\u201d Greene told CNN. \u201cI don\u2019t think anyone is sitting at home going, \u2018Oh, this is great. The Republicans and Democrats have the government shut down, and they\u2019re not discussing anything to fix it.\u2019 Democrats are saying, \u2018Continue to grow the debt with ACA tax credits\u2019, and Republicans are just \u2026 calling it a Schumer shutdown, so I don\u2019t think anybody is winning here, and I think it\u2019s failure, and I personally don\u2019t like it.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"GOP Rep.
