Ray Winstone<\/a> has revealed that he once auditioned for a part in Star Wars, but that it went south because he was drunk.<\/p>\n

Winstone, 68, best known for his \u201ctough guy\u201d<\/a> characters in crime-thrillers like Sexy Beast (2000) and The Departed (2006), recalled meeting with the iconic franchise\u2019s creator and director George Lucas<\/a> to read for the role of Ruwee Naberrie, the father of Natalie Portman\u2019s Princess Padm\u00e9 Amidala.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t go well,\u201d the British actor admitted in a new interview with Far Out Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHad words and that was that. I\u2019ve worked for George since, and he was fine,\u201d Winstone noted, adding, \u201cHe didn\u2019t remember. Or if he did, he didn\u2019t take it to heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

The role of Padm\u00e9\u2019s father in the 2005 prequel Star Wars: Episode III \u2014 Revenge of the Sith eventually went to Australian actor Graeme Blundell, who also made an appearance in a deleted scene of 2002\u2019s Attack of the Clones.<\/p>\n

Winstone <\/a>went on to appear in the filmmaker\u2019s 2008 movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.<\/p>\n

The award-winning actor explained that hours before the audition he had \u201cbeen out all night.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was pissed anyway,\u201d he said. \u201cI knew I was wrong for the part as soon as I walked in, but instead of saying that, he relayed the message to me through someone else, and I took umbrage at that.\u201d<\/p>\n

He remembered Lucas yawning throughout his entire audition, and assuming he\u2019s \u201cobviously got jet lag.\u201d<\/p>\n

After sitting with Lucas in brief silence following his audition, he eventually told the director: \u201cWhy don\u2019t we both have a 15-minute sleep and then I\u2019ll f*** off?\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if he regretted his failed audition, Winstone replied no, \u201cthat sort of film would bore the arse off me, all that bluescreen work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Winstone\u2019s most recent acting credits are Netflix\u2019s 2024 action-adventure film Damsel, starring Millie Bobby Brown, and the streamer\u2019s Theo James-led drama series The Gentlemen. <\/p>\n

Speaking to The Independent in 2024 about latter<\/a>, Winstone revealed the reason it took him so long to collaborate with Ritchie.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe haven\u2019t always had the best relationship, put it that way,\u201d he admitted. \u201cIt was back when we were younger, but then you grow up.\u201d<\/p>\n
