{"id":199014,"date":"2025-10-09T02:15:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T02:15:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/199014\/"},"modified":"2025-10-09T02:15:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T02:15:09","slug":"fia-and-formula-1-to-change-qualifying-format-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/199014\/","title":{"rendered":"FIA and Formula 1 to change qualifying format in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpblog.com\/en\/fia\" title=\"FIA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FIA<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpblog.com\/en\/formula-1\" title=\"Formula 1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1<\/a> will change the qualifying format from 2026 season onwards after Cadillac joins as the 11th team on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpblog.com\/en\/f1\" title=\"F1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">F1<\/a> grid.<\/p>\n<p>From next season, progressing through qualifying sessions will be more difficult.<\/p>\n<p>Whereas currently, five and five drivers drop out after Q1 and Q2 respectively, that number will increase to six drivers eliminated in both sessions.<\/p>\n<p>That way, it is ensured that ten drivers will remain to fight for pole position in Q3.<\/p>\n<p>Cadillac joins as the new team on the F1 grid<\/p>\n<p>The adjustment, already in the sporting regulations for the next year, is in place because of Cadillac&#8217;s arrival in Formula 1.<\/p>\n<p>Two further drivers will join the grid with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpblog.com\/en\/breaking-news\/official-cadillac-announces-first-ever-driver-line-up-for-formula-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez<\/a> competing for the American team during its maiden season.<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/verstappen-singapore-2025.jpg@webp.webp\" class=\"w-auto\" alt=\"Max Verstappen in Singapore\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Qualifying sessions will change in Formula 1 &#8211; Photo: Red Bull Content Pool<\/p>\n<p>The FIA and Formula 1 could have opted for eliminating seven drivers after Q1, but the decision was made to distribute them evenly across Q1 and Q2.<\/p>\n<p>This format was used back in 2016, the last time 11 teams participated.<\/p>\n<p>More changes due to another team<\/p>\n<p>Cadillac&#8217;s entry will lead to several more changes in Formula 1. Not only will qualifying be different, but prize money will also be redistributed.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, additional space will be required in the paddock for the new team, including hospitality, trucks, and the eleventh pit box.
