{"id":199375,"date":"2025-10-09T05:24:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T05:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/199375\/"},"modified":"2025-10-09T05:24:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T05:24:11","slug":"canada-wide-warrant-issued-for-alberta-man-accused-of-embezzling-over-10m-from-investors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/199375\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada-wide warrant issued for Alberta man accused of embezzling over $10M from investors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Alberta man is accused of stealing millions of dollars from people who invested in his now-defunct wealth management firm.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1759603997_236_70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/rcmp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RCMP\u2019s<\/a> federal policing integrated market enforcement team (IMET) in Calgary has been investigations allegations of money laundering and <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/fraud\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fraud<\/a> by the founder and president of Canadian Wealth Strategies (CWS) Capital.<\/p>\n<p>The former Edmonton-based company represented itself as a foreign exchange trading business operating on an international scale.<\/p>\n<p>CWS Capital appears to have ceased operating two years ago in April 2023, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/cwscapital\/p\/CrMgRb6huNZ\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">it said as much in a cryptic post on its social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>RCMP said the founder and president of the company is alleged to have misappropriated more than $10 million in investor funds, transferring money from CWS accounts to other accounts under his control.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/national.jpg\" alt=\"Get the day's top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet daily National news<\/p>\n<p>Get the day&#8217;s top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day.<\/p>\n<p>A portion of the stolen funds were moved into cryptocurrency exchanges, police said.<\/p>\n<p>CWS Capital founder and president\u00a0Mark Douglas Alexander, 41, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for laundering proceeds of crime, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and fraud over $5,000.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Crime<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 9, Mark Douglas Alexander, 41, was charged with laundering proceeds of crime, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and fraud over $5,000.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander was described on CWS Capital\u2019s accounts as the president and fund manager, whose interest in foreign exchange as an alternative investment started when he worked in banking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFascinated by it, he devoted a ton of time to learning more and seeing how he could get it to benefit himself. The result of that was Canadian Wealth Strategies, which he founded in 2013.
