Jessica Simpson<\/a> is seemingly hinting at the demise of her marriage to Eric Johnson<\/a> in a new song.\n<\/p>\n On Tuesday, July 22, the star shared her latest single “Fade”<\/a> \u2014 her first single since the release of Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1<\/a>, her first EP in 15 years \u2014 which appears to be a nod to the end of her marriage to the former NFL player, 45.\n<\/p>\n “You can always say you love me \/ That doesn’t mean that I feel loved \/ There’s a green light in the distance \/ And all your words become too much \/ Well I won’t repeat this history \/ The kind I’ve seen times before \/ Here’s the part, I should say I miss you \/ But I think you’ll miss me more,” she croons on the soulful rock track.\n<\/p>\n Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson in June 2023.<\/p>\n Ella Hovsepian\/Getty<\/p>\n Simpson, 45, later notes that her lover is “as empty as your promise” and tells them to “go sleep alone in the bed you made.”\n<\/p>\n The “Breadcrumbs” artist later notes that she wants her heart “to feel held safe.”\n<\/p>\n “I know that home is a feeling \/ And not a place \/ Oh, there won’t be a next time \/ Cause I won’t break,” Simpson sings.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n On July 23, Simpson performed “Fade” \u2014 along with several new and old songs over the course of four hours \u2014 as a part of the\u00a0Today\u00a0show\u2019s Citi Concert Series.\n<\/p>\n \u201cHow does it feel back on the stage, the first release in 15 years?\u201d NBC correspondent Peter Alexander asked the fashion designer on stage.\n<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s insane. And of course I had a malfunction here and everywhere, but it\u2019s okay,\u201d said Simpson, who donned a pink corset dress with feathered fringe skirt and a silver sparkly jacket. \u201cI think my boobs stayed in, so it\u2019s okay.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n One week prior to the release of “Fade,” Simpson teased the track on Instagram.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n “I was in a rough place when the day came around for this writing session, however I was not going to crawl under my sheets, hide, and cry,” she captioned the post.\u00a0“Instead, I chose to rise and shine. It immediately encouraged confrontation to heal a layer of pain.\u00a0\u00a0You can pre-save\u00a0#FADE\u00a0now using the link in bio, OUT 7\/22!”\n<\/p>\n In January, Simpson and Johnson announced their separation.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she told PEOPLE in a statement at the time.\n<\/p>\n In November 2024, Johnson was spotted without his wedding ring, and a source told PEOPLE that the couple “very much live separate lives<\/a>.”\n<\/p>\n The former couple initially met in 2010 and tied the knot in 2014. They’ve since welcomed\u00a0three children<\/a>: Maxwell Drew, 13, Birdie Mae, 5, and\u00a0Ace Knute, 12.\n<\/p>\n
