Here\u2019s news that will displease Utahns who wait until after Thanksgiving to put up their Christmas decorations: <\/p>\n
A Salt Lake City-area radio station has already started playing Christmas music.<\/p>\n
KLO FM 103.1, licensed out of Coalville and broadcasting across the northern half of Utah, launched its seasonal \u201cChristmas 103\u201d<\/a> format on Tuesday. <\/p>\n The station is playing holiday songs \u2014 including standards like Mariah Carey\u2019s \u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You\u201d \u2014 around the clock, including a commercial-free music block daily from 9 a.m. to noon. <\/p>\n \u201cWe realize it\u2019s a little bit early to do Christmas music,\u201d said Rob Riesen, program director and operations director for Capital Broadcasting, which owns KLO and KBZN \u2014 a \u201cHot AC\u201d station known to listeners as \u201cNow 97.9.\u201d<\/a> <\/p>\n But, Riesen added, there are plenty of listeners who will enjoy the seasonal music whenever they can hear it.<\/p>\n As recently as Monday night, KLO had been playing classic alternative music under the name \u201cThe Wave 103.1.\u201d That format had been in place for seven years, Riesen said, but it didn\u2019t make a dent in ratings. \u201cWe gave it a shot,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Riesen said the company will be switching to a new format after Christmas, but he wouldn\u2019t announce what it is yet. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be exciting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The industry website Radio Insight reported that KLO<\/a> had let go of its on-air staff in July. The Wave had recorded a lowly 0.9 market share in August\u2019s Nielsen ratings<\/a>.
