{"id":200075,"date":"2025-10-09T12:13:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T12:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/200075\/"},"modified":"2025-10-09T12:13:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T12:13:07","slug":"before-the-bell-what-every-canadian-investor-needs-to-know-today-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/200075\/","title":{"rendered":"Before the Bell: What every Canadian investor needs to know today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Equities<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Global markets took a breather and searched for direction after an AI-related tech rally yesterday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Wall Street futures were muted after the S&amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq notched fresh all-time closing highs in the previous session.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">TSX futures edged up after Canada\u2019s main stock market closed up yesterday, just shy of Monday\u2019s record high. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">In Canada, investors are getting results from Aritzia Inc. and Tilray Brands Inc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">On Wall Street, markets are watching earnings from Pepsico Inc., Delta Air Lines Inc., Levi Strauss &amp; Inc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cThe AI theme remains intact as we see another stream of [multibillion-dollar] investment come into the space,\u201d wrote analysts at JPMorgan in a note.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cInvestors can talk all they want about the \u2018circularity\u2019 of this AI investment cycle, but these daily headlines are being rewarded with strength until proven otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text mv-16 l-inset text-pb-8\" data-sophi-feature=\"interstitial\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/investing\/article-wall-streets-bull-market-nears-three-years-old-history-shows-it-may\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wall Street\u2019s bull market nears three years old; history shows it may still have life<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Overseas, the pan-European STOXX 600 was down 0.1 per cent in morning trading. Britain\u2019s FTSE 100 declined 0.24 per cent, Germany\u2019s DAX climbed 0.41 per cent and France\u2019s CAC 40 advanced 0.35 per cent. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">In Asia, Japan\u2019s Nikkei closed 1.77 per cent higher, while Hong Kong\u2019s Hang Seng slid 0.29 per cent. <\/p>\n<p>Commodities<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Oil prices were little changed as investors weighed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/article-israel-hamas-gaza-peace-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/article-israel-hamas-gaza-peace-talks\/\">ceasefire deal in Gaza<\/a> that could ease geopolitical tensions in the Middle East against stalled peace talks in Ukraine that could sustain sanctions on Russia and curb its exports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Brent crude futures were down 16 US cents to US$66.09 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped 18 US cents to US$62.37.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cThe peace agreement is a major breakthrough in recent Middle Eastern history \u2013 its implications for oil markets could be wide-ranging, from the possibility of a decrease in the Houthis\u2019 attacks in the Red Sea to an increase in the likelihood of a nuclear deal with Iran and, eventually, the possibility for Iran to increase its crude and product exports,\u201d Rystad Energy\u2019s chief economist Claudio Galimberti said in a note.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">In other commodities, spot gold held steady at US$4,035.07 an ounce after hitting a record high of US$4,059.05 yesterday. U.S. gold futures for December delivery fell 0.4 per cent to US$4,054.60.<\/p>\n<p>Currencies and bonds<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The Canadian dollar weakened against its U.S. counterpart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The day range on the loonie was 71.61 US cents to 71.77 US cents in early trading. The Canadian dollar was down about 0.88 per cent against the greenback over the past month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The U.S. dollar index, which weighs the greenback against a group of currencies, edged up 0.02 per cent to 98.94. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The euro fell 0.15 per cent to US$1.16137.
