{"id":200453,"date":"2025-10-09T15:47:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T15:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/200453\/"},"modified":"2025-10-09T15:47:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T15:47:07","slug":"saskatchewan-roughriders-look-to-claim-west-in-week-19-action-on-tsn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/200453\/","title":{"rendered":"Saskatchewan Roughriders look to claim West in Week 19 action on TSN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The CFL regular season is coming down to the wire with four games over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Week 19 opens up with Friday Night Football as the Saskatchewan Roughriders look to cement their position at the top of the West with a win over the Toronto Argonauts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Saturday features a doubleheader that will see one of the best offences in the league in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats take on one of the best defences in the Calgary Stampeders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Then, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers look to keep their chase for second place in the West alive as they take on the Edmonton Elks in the second half of the doubleheader.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The week wraps up Monday afternoon with the Montreal Alouettes battling the Ottawa Redblacks with Montreal gearing up for a home playoff game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Watch every CFL game <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/live\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/live\/\" target=\"_blank\">LIVE on TSN, with Data Enhanced feeds available on TSN+<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Argonauts vs. Roughriders<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The top of the West Division had been firmly staked out by the Blue Bombers the past four seasons, but the Roughriders have a chance to change that on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Saskatchewan (11-4) is looking to claim the division for the first time since 2019, which would be just their third divisional title since 1976.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A win over Toronto (5-11) would also push the Riders one step closer to claiming the league\u2019s best record for 2025, a distinction they haven\u2019t held since 1976.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Roughriders are coming off a 20-13 win over the Ottawa Redblacks in the nation\u2019s capital in Week 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Trevor Harris threw for 341 yards with a touchdown, while receiver Dohnte Meyers had 158 receiving yards with a touchdown on six receptions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The defending Grey Cup champion Argonauts had their playoff dreams dashed on Saturday when they fell 47-29 to the East-leading Tiger-Cats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Toronto also lost starting quarterback Nick Arbuckle for the rest of the season when he injured his wrist early in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Jarret Doege took over and threw for 323 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions in the loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Dejon Brissett had 97 receiving yards while David Ungerer III and Kevin Mital also came up with touchdown catches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">This will be the first time the Argonauts missed the playoffs since the 2019 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Hamilton is continuing to try to chase down the Roughriders for the best record in the CFL as they host Calgary on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Tiger-Cats hold the No. 1 spot in the East Division with a 10-6 record and are on the verge of their first division title since the 2019 season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">They are coming off a blowout victory over the Argonauts that saw Bo Levi Mitchell throw for 320 yards with four touchdowns and an interception.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Brendan O\u2019Leary-Orange came up with 111 receiving yards with two touchdown catches<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">while Kiondre Smith also picked up 98 receiving yards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Greg Bell had a strong game on the ground, adding 76 rushing yards with a touchdown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Stampeders (8-7) are trying to chase down the BC Lions for second place in the West Division and also try to hold off the Blue Bombers for third. Their chase took a big blow in Week 18 after they fell 38-24 to the Lions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 303 yards with two touchdowns but also gave up three interceptions to his old team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Erik Brooks had 92 receiving yards in the loss while Clark Barnes and Dominique Rhymes each had touchdown catches.<\/p>\n<p>Blue Bombers vs. Elks<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Winnipeg (8-7) continues to fight for second place in the West as they take on the Elks (6-9) to wrap up Week 19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Blue Bombers had a bye during Week 18 but trounced the Tiger-Cats 40-3 the week prior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Star quarterback Zach Collaros returned to the lineup after missing two games with a head injury and showed why he\u2019s one of the best in the CFL, throwing for 367 yards with a touchdown in the victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Canadian receiver Nic Demski had 114 receiving yards in the victory while Chris Streveler ran in for three rushing touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Elks are also coming off a bye week after they kept their playoff hopes alive with a 27-25 win over the Roughriders in Week 17.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Cody Fajardo threw for 305 passing yards in the win while Kaion Julien Grant had 89 receiving yards with a touchdown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Running back Justin Rankin put on a show, running for 82 yards with a pair of touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He was rewarded with a fresh multi-year contract this week that will keep in him the Green and Gold through the 2027 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Redblacks vs. Alouettes<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Alouettes clinched the second seed in the East and home field in the East semifinals when the Redblacks fell to the Roughriders in Week 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Montreal (8-7) has an outside shot of chasing down the Tiger-Cats for first in the East but are likely gearing up to host a western crossover team in the East semis when they host the Redblacks on Thanksgiving Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">They had a bye week in Week 18, but are coming off a huge 38-20 win over the Stampeders on Sept. 26 that saw quarterback Davis Alexander return from injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Alexander made his impact felt immediately, throwing for 350 yards with a touchdown pass to claim the victory with receiver Tyler Snead recording 115 receiving yards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Quarterback Shea Patterson picked up three rushing touchdowns in short-yardage situations, while Cole Spieker and Tyson Philpot also filled the stat sheet with 81 and 76 receiving yards, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Redblacks (4-11) have now missed the playoffs in five of the last six seasonsafter the Week 18 lossto the Roughriders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Dru Brown started the game for Ottawa but threw for 141 yards with three interceptions before Dustin Crum took over in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Crum ended up with 99 passing yards and a touchdown in the loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Justin Hardy led the receiving corps with 57 receiving yards and a touchdown while Eugene Lewis also added 56 yards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The CFL
